Just seen a girl wearing a T-shirt with the slogan PORNSTAR on the front. Seen girls wear them before, with one difference.

She was about 10!

What the fuck is wrong with some parents and why is a company making t shirts like that?

That's not much different from Playboy merchandise aimed at 13y/o teen girls. My 11y/o daughter had loads of it on her Xmas list for last year and I told her she wasn't having any of it. Next came the inevitable question: Why not?

I think Playboy knew that this would happen and direct sales are second to the brand exposure they will get by parents explaining what Playboy is and why they can't have their stuff. Very, very cynical if you ask me.

Funny you should mention because it was my brothers birthday the other day. I decided this year I'd just buy him useless abusive items. So I had this wrapping paper that just said 'twat' all over it, and another saying 'happy fucking birthday'. The card read 'face it you are gay' and nothing else. All very jouvenile I know, but hey.

I got my brother to come to the car to open it as I didn't want my niece to see it! It didn't occur to me that she couldn't read it yet. Although I got him to open one of the useless presents as it was a designer beaver toy thingy with iron filings, so didn't want to have to explain that one away.

She was still very keen to see what the red thing on the counter top was, and also we didn't realise there were pictures on the bottom of it, so when we were just holding it up she could still see cartoon pubic hair styling ideas from underneath, oops!!

She was still asking 'daddy what's that?' over and over, and at the time my brother had designed a cock shape with the black filings on the white persons body... so he gently said 'it's a white man with a black mans cock'.

After that she stopped asking. Funny how a bit of honesty can do the trick. Although obviously he isn't an awful parent, and won't make a habit of it, it was amusing at the time...

Fortunatley she didn't repeat any of it. Could just imagine that at the nursery, lol

To answer the OP question. Companies make stuff like that 'cos they sell. We're far beyond expecting major companies, or any companies for that matter, to have morals but somebody gave that 10 year old the money she used to buy the t shirt and somebody allowed her to wear it.

It seems that there has been a distinct blurring of the boundaries of what's acceptable and what isn't.

Anything blatantly targetted at adults is acceptable but then some things targetted at kids has also become acceptable - in the eyes of trading standards anyway.

There needs to be a strict moral code of ethics for the retail industry that is enforced rigidly to include ANY shop, outlet, market stall or online store that sells to minors, and severe financial penalties for those who break it. I'm going to email my local MP to see what he has to say about it and get something done. It's unnacceptable and someone has to take a stand. I suggest you all do the same, one email takes no time at all and if enough people petition their MP, from all over the country, they'll know it's an issue that they MUST address.

It's kinda hard for parents aren't it?....on on side you have responsibility to protect their childrens...on another side...allowing freedom of choice and decision so their kids can learn...but still wouldn't blame the company though...they are just catering human demands...as long as it's not illegal...:D

Maybe I'm old fashioned but t-shirts or anything with adult humour ,or content shouldnt be around kids ,til there old enough to make there own mind up (16 min ) .

I ,made a mistake last year , the hottest day of the year , turned up to work on a mates car with an fcuk shirt on , his grand kids were there , and I only had a work jacket with me . Had to wear it for 3 hrs , thought I was gonna pass out ! lol

If French Connection is a french company why doesn't there clothing say FCFR?... because there is no shock value to it, that's why!

FCUK is clearly a play on the word 'FUCK' and as such it appeals to youngsters for it's 'naughtiness'.

I'd put that right up there with Playboy products and not to be sold to people under the age of 16, but then people over the age of 16 probably wouln't buy it because they'd see it for the naff product that it really is.

I once made the mistake of buying a t-shirt that had B4ST4RD emblazoned across the chest but the first time I wore I felt a proper twerp and threw it in the bin when I got home.

But are they selling? I'm only aware of having seen on child wearing one so there can't be a great demand.

Also won't complaining just boost the companies sales through publicity? Same as the fcuk ad campaign did a few years ago?

The company probably didn't even expect anyone to buy them. But you'll always get one parent who dresses their kid like a hooker and then blame someone else when she gets pregnant at 13.

And despite what parents or guardians TRY to do to protect their kids = the media is still out there.

I remember the chain of stores that got hammered for selling sexy gear- but at the end of the day - it was what the young girl bands where wearing - and who is watching MTV and such like to see these bands - YOUNG girls.

I am a god mother to a now 15 year old - and i can honestly say - by the time she was 8 - yes EIGHT- she knew about sex, dancing provocativly and wearing sexy clothes.

BUT

We did not condone that behaviour - she dod get playboy stuff, but is not allowed to go out dressed like a ho.

But then they go to their friends - get changed and go out like that anyway...

So the best ANY parent can do = is set your standards, tell your child why, and hope that they follow - and if they dont - then be there when it all goes wrong.

There's a shop in Covent garden that has similar t-shirts on sale. One day I went in and said to the girl behind the counter "Push stupid girls over" knowing she would not find it least bit funny (at least).

Her reply: "Sorry, but violence against women in this day and age is not acceptable" to which I said "If pushing someone is violent, how come you have a t-shirt in full view in your window that says 'Boys are stupid - throw rocks at them'?".

Her response: "That's different - its just a bit of fun".
