It's a shame the lead guitarist left a couple of years back, he was insanely talented. Have you seen their live performance at Slane Castle? It's unbelievable, I definitely suggest looking it up on youtube, especially the part were they perform Don't Forget Me

It is. The last one seemed to have more money spent on it and the production values are really good.

They are ace. I always have Minas de Cobre on my Christmas shopping survival playlist since it makes me feel like I'm in a Western and I am getting in and out with my shopping and no-one had better mess with me!

Recently I have rediscovered Jawbox, love Chelsea Wolfe and will always have a soft spot for Fugazi. The first Chapel Club album is great in a poppier My Bloody Valentine way as well.

I hear dead people!

well most of them are long gone blues artists such as

S_nny Boy Williamson

Wille Dixon

Memphis Slim

Professor Longhair

Elmore James

(im assuming you're all familiar with Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker...Yes?)

Or its The Wondestuff - they did much more than the cow song that most of you think of if you've heard of them

From the same era if The Family CAt (with a capital A in CAt) a really underrated indie band from the late 80's/early 90s

Like a little chilled out electronica? wrap your ears round Banco De Gaia.....you'll thank me for it i promise

Calexico - if you like Calexico then look up "Friends of Dean Martinez", Howe Gelb, Giant Sand for more laid back sounds from Arizona ... which takes me to the Desert Sessions (Josh Homme from Kyuss and QOTSA) and then to

Causa Sui - psychedelic rock from a few years back.

And, for something completely different, try Laika and the Cosmonauts. IT's surfer rock from ... Finland!

And for a travelling cabaret band in the UK look out for the Urban Voodoo Machine. Here's the video for a romantic Love Song 666 that starts with the line "So I fucked your sister ... but darling I'll always love you"

Love The Wonderstuff and The Family CAt (remember, all other bands are dogshite - at least that's what it said on my T-shirt). Can I throw Rosetta Crawford and Sister Rosetta Tharpe into your blues greats - check out this version of Didn't It Rain on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR2gR6SZC2M. Another vote here for Calexico.

I'll add:

Bowling For Soup (such a funny band live)

Ray Wylie Hubbard

I'd even add Van Halen to the list, most people know the song 'Jump' but have no clue who performed it and that they're one of the biggest selling bands in the world.

If you are talking about relatively unknown bands, then one of mine has to be Kill or Cure.

Their own material is great, for those who like heavier music, and they do a great cover of From Paris to Berlin. (A quick look on youtube will produce a list of a few of their tracks.)

The last ones quite apt too- not the band name but their dogging anthem 'sex on wheels' (are you the other person that owns a copy then?)

"Strawberry switchblade, Neds atomic dustbin, Sultans of ping & a good band for Fab The nipple erectors.

You missed the FC off the end of Sultans of Ping

With that line up i'm guessing you have some PWEI, Inspiral Carpets and maybe some Frank & Walters knocking around the old music collection?"

Well remembered shame it's not a music quiz. Yes all the others appear in my record collection to. Can't beat a bit of PWEI beaver patrol.

Now my wife's favourite band, hailed from Swindon ( were they the only thing to come from there apart from Melinda Messenger?) has to be one of the shortest named bands Xtc.

Now for one of the longest named bands unless you know otherwise, Splodgnessabounds!!

Other not so well known bands

Milltown Brothers,

Railway Children,

Theatre of hate,

Spear of Destiny,

Paris angels,

3rd eye blind,

Goldblade,

Kissing the pink,

Department s,

The passions,

Spizz energi,

The Connells,

The Delays, with the aptly named song long time coming.

Ten pole Tudor (crystal maze presenter),

Dreadzone,

The Dickies,

My bloody valentine,

The Chords,

Jilted John,

Then Jericho,

Alphaville.

Keep em coming, be interested if anybody's found any new bands to listen to.

Big fan of early Kid Harpoon, but his later stuff is a bit weak.

Also check out Bert Jansch. Sadly he has passed away, but his folk music inspired almost every 70s rock group, esp led zep

Well I was into Green Day before they became 'mainstream'

I can recommend two excellent tribute bands.

T-Rextasy. The only OFFICIAL T-Rex Tribute band (endorsed by Marc Bolan's estate) - If you get a chance - go and see them (obviously you'd have to like the music of T-Rex)

As for Pink Floyd fans you simply HAVE to check out the Australian Pink Floyd

I can describe them with just one word - WOW!

I'd been to see another Floyd tribute act (called Think Floyd) a number of times over the years, but Aussie Floyd completely BLEW MY MIND

The first concert I saw of theirs was their 'The Wall' tour.

From the opening chord of 'In the Flesh' I knew it was going to be awesome.

Seen them again since - and missed out this year because the tickets sold out so quick.
