44 inch Chest

Every now and then - more accurately HARDLY EVER - a film comes into being that takes me over for some time. I put on 44 inch chest this morning as I cannot do the ironing without a distraction ..... I HAD to sit and take in every gesture, word and emotion!

Pure brilliance from start to finish. A discussion piece for ever I'd say .. on so many levels.

Anyone seen it ? Feel the same ?

Awwwwwwww Wishey ...no - it's about love , hate , honour , disgrace..... infidelity , pain ...... but the shots Wishey.. the script .... the acting.... Lose yourself in it. Watch it alone... his pain to me was palpable and the forgiveness shown by one particular character.... The comedy!! I hadn't stopped laughing before I was crying .. and vice versa.

Let me know what you make of it.

Up North :-)

The film is a great bit of drama and i smiled at the chauffeur scenes in it but i liked the gritty edge and the way it played out. I think Meredith was a very different angle for Ian McShane to play. Glad you enjoyed it Granny

I haven't seen it either so i cannot say if it was good or not but going by the reviews i don't think i will be wanting to watch it in a hurry.

Said they were trying too hard to make another Sexy Beast and failed miserably.

Its a shame as i'm one of Ray Winston's biggest fans and was looking forward to seeing it.

We watched it and initially thought it lacked action. BUT!!! if you look beyond that it is very good. Ray Winston was brilliant in it as a man with a burning desire for revenge but who is struggling with his conscience .... I'll say no more lol

I know what you mean Serens. Anyone expecting action will be disappointed. those expecting depth and insights won't ......... I loved it ... Maybe cos I had no preconceptions. It needs awards simply for the close up shots, the character portraits are superb! So multi faceted and as vainglorious and diverse as people generally are ........ I'd watch it again.

Yeah I saw it about 4 months ago. Wasn't sure what to expect, as id never even heard of this film before, but with a cast like John Hurt, Ray Winstone, Steven Berkoff etc, I was sure it would be at least be entertaining!

Personally speaking..I was amazed at how pointless and irrelevant the film was, I thought it was an absolute waste of time, John Hurts character was just a watered down version of Ben Kinsley's (Don Logan) in "Sexy Beast" which is by far a superior British movie in every dimension.

But opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one..lol

That's an interesting point of view ; saying the film was pointless and irrelevant not to mention a waste of time.

I found there to be so many layers to the film and a richness to the characters.

The tiny cast and low budget settings are testimony to powerful writing and gritty character portrayal. It held me throughout.

I agree with you that everyone has an opinion and it's good that they differ. I guess it takes a certain amount of superficiality to be unable to see past the surface.

I will watch it again soon and there is only ONE other film that i've watched twice.

Good film, but obviously a movie version of a stage play. We much prefer 'sexy beast'.
