"I would live to see cameras at traffic lights. I cycle to and from work at least once a week and in my 13 mile journey across London I sometimes feel like I'm the only person (cyclist or motorist) who actually obeys traffic lights. Putting cameras on the lights and fining people who run red lights would be a good start." Most who ignore the lights are cyclists, and camera's can't identify them as they have no registration or identifiable marks.

"Fit all cars with a simple device which automatically cuts out signals to mobile phones etc whilst the engine is running. " Please can we also fit them to restaurants, pubs, cinemas and every other place too

"Sorry, that was in response to artificialname" I don't drive in London any more, but find it hard to believe in the density of traffic that a large number of cars and large vehicles are ignoring traffic lights, but also totally credible that one or 2 cars may follow a bus van or truck through lights in the process of changing as the volume and low speed of traffic makes it difficult to see the light past solid objects. The problem with policing by camera is they only deal with one thing and they do it arbitrarily. e.g. in heavy traffic it is not uncommon for someone turning to be trapped for the duration of the green light and find themselves blocking the road by changing lights, in that case it's better for all that they move, a policeman could see the whole picture and acknowledge that although technically against the rules, it was right in the circumstances. I would be more impressed by a system that rewarded courteous and thoughtful driving, than one that set out to add another level of punishment. unfortunately cameras are cheaper than proper policing.

"Is it too late to significantly improve driving standards here? With police numbers cut by 10s of thousands and cameras only checking some things, are we beyond the point of no return? Id love more frequent and increasingly stringent testing and training. It would cost us the drivers, but driving is so poor now, with even indication used properly a rarity. What could we do to improve it? Would you be willing to pay for more tests etc? Would you ban more people?" The obvious choice is to involve insurance companies and reduce premiums for advanced drivers to the point it becomes viable.

" The obvious choice is to involve insurance companies and reduce premiums for advanced drivers to the point it becomes viable. " This is something I agree with, along with all insurance companies offering a discount if you have a monitoring device fitted. If your driving is good you save money. Although there are insurances that offer these "black boxes" they are never cheaper policies.

"Fit speed limiters to new drivers cars for the first couple of years of their driving. Also attach it to their accerators so they can't do burnouts and wheel spins. Fit all taxi drivers, lorry drivers, Audi drivers and BMW drivers with electric shock dog collars that shock them when they decide to pull out without warning, change lanes with little or no warning, hog the middle lane or tailgate. Make people sit a mandatory hazzard awareness course every 3-5yrs. Have all new drivers learn the basics or car maintenance. By that I don't mean just checking the oil, bulbs and tyre pressures, I mean how to change the oil, bulbs, spare wheel and check the brakes for wear." I like this
