I am looking to get into working on building sites..was a plumbers mate for 7 years but aint done it for about 3years,and was just looking for advice what cards/other stuff i need 2 work on sites.

A cscs is more or less essential now on site, if you have even a modicum of common sense you will pass it, tryi going for sssts card as well it's all based on the same theory, and is a multiply choice answer format.

Companies now are looking for site supervisor qualified operatives, it a cop out so they don't have to put as much effort into site management

Another one you should consider is Asbestos awareness, this can be done on line, but a UKATA one is the best to get.

1st Aid, is also a good one, not trying to put you off but the more you the better chance you have of finding a decent and more permanent position.

I'm sure cscs cards are just a con, why else would you need to renew it. The questions asked are so stupid as well.Next you'll need a certificate to cross the road.

Possibly some experience as you was a plumbers mate. Alot of places don't have them now. Just plumbers/gas fitters.

If your looking for just labour work also try getting your forklift license.

And digger license. Good luck

Thank you for all the advice,and I will look into getting the higher up cards I pretty much know how to do all aspects of plumbing,Basic electrics,basic carpentry.

Pasta. Not only can't you move it you can't go on it because you need to check it's assembled right and checked the tag. If you don't have pasma your not qualified to do anything with it

I've recently had to have a site induction as we currently need occasional access to the build area.

The person doing the induction said that the cscs is a mandatory minimum for all contractors working directly for them on site, with various other trade/role specific ones required- things like COSHH, First Aid, Fire Marshall Training, manual handling, working at height etc giving a distinct advantage to those without them.

Depending on the type/scale of construction sites you're looking at, its worth considering doing an IPAF to enable you to operate MEWPS (scissor lifts, cherry pickers etc). Its a fairly easy 1 day course which gives you 5 years for each category you pass.

Might also be worth calling up big companies like Carillion, Laing, BAM etc to find out what they generally look for as a minimum for contractors in your field

I doubt you'll get anywhere near any electrics without a 17th cert as a minimum.

You can move and use it as long as it's signed off by someone with a PASMA ticket

Judging by the amount of fucktards that stride out into the road without looking, because they have something really important to look at or listen to on their phone that checking its safe to do so makes me think they scrapped the Tufty club or forgot to update it to account for modern technology?

Not quite Correct,You dont need a Pasma Cert to use it just to erect and sign it off as safe, Same as any Scaftag.

As an aside forget paying for the Asbestos Awareness course coz that benefits the main contractor only, if you work on site its up to them to pay if they want you to have it.

Never got a certificate for it, don't need to waste my time and money to renew it either.

Logistics and administration chaos comes to mind with so many drivers in the UK and also cost would be another factor though it wouldn't be a bad thing if you had to.

Simply because its easy Revenue, When i was on the Tools i had to renew my Supervisers Training every 12 months..Exactly the same never changed apart from a couple of legal jargons which had no bearing on the practical side of the job, All of a sudden it went from a one day (350 per person) to Two day (800 per person)

It would make sense though maybe retirement age or 60 up and include people with convictions to have to do them too.

No 55yrs thats when they go gaga driving and drive on the motorway at 45 and the rest of the roads at 20 bloody dangerous they are.

yeah ..im a fork lift driver ..every 3 years i have to jump through the hoops ....there are 80 year old people loose on our roads and no one has tested their eyesite but this makes sense apparently to keep tabs on me ...the looneys have took over the camp here !

Really? as a 59 year old who has driven since he was 12 years old (2100miles last week) i have never ever been accused of driving at 20mph anywhere

Like I said 55yrs put them through the ringer and make them take the test again then again at 60, 65 and 70 and stop them driving at 70.

it certainly does .forklifts dont have speedometers so i dont know what speed it does ..it certainly aint anything like a car ....anyway ....the woman with a dodgy eye up the road who backed into our garage twice trying to get off the drive !

They changed cscs labourer card last month u can't just do the test now.. You must do a two day nvq in site safety first thats about £750 so not good when I came to renew mine after working on sites on and off for twenty years!
