Grantham.

as a follow on from previous thread.

Being Scottish I deplore the fact that you support Rangers or Celtic because of your religion ( for the most part ).

I follow no club for that reason.

I understand Liverpool and Everton may once have had an element of this - due to the large Irish connections (Glasgow, Liverpool and Belfast/Dublin all connected via the sea lanes).

Grantham.

Hopefully any that do don't have the hatred displayed by others in Scotland.

Speaking from a very bitter experience of seeing the man in front to me on a coach having an axe through his head - I was 11 years of age.

Serious wake up call about both football and religion for me.

Chelsea have strong connections with Glasgow rangers (check the badges) Everton Protestant and Liverpool catholic

Man city were Protestant and man utd catholic but nowhere near as strong as in Scotland.

Nowadays arsenal probably have nearly as many Jewish fans as spurs.

I've never heard that element as Liverpool were formed following a split at Everton. Religion was never a factor

arsenal did have a strong irish catholic connection, just because a lot of people who came over settled in the surrounding area's but doesn't have quite the connection now.....

Maybe not in the formation of the clubs but people did polarise from there - will ask a relative who knows all about this kind of thing.

Dunno, but you need a hell of a lot of faith to be a Terriers fan.

they were followed by a large proportion of Irish Catholics due to having several high profile Irish Catholics playing for them. Same goes for Liverpool. Glasgow Celtic were formed to allow anyone to play due to the selective policy of Rangers until relatively recently. Edinburgh to an extent have the same situation with Hibs and Hearts.

Not to sure about Bristol city and Rovers
