I've got an 11 year old who is sitting his SATs this week.

Its been a long time coming and he's been working really hard.

Is it right that 11 year olds are put under so much pressure?? School have been practising for the past 12 weeks.

Roll on Friday and the little guy can have a late night!!

Not right at all.. sad favt of modern life though.

We think kids should be kids... and enjoy their time before stress gets hold later

Good luck to the little fella xx

My son did his yr 9 SATs last year and the results were completely cocked up by the American company hired to mark them, not once but twice!!

We have no idea still how he did but not worried as SATs are really just for the schools to make them look good and not the chuldren

Dreading this week, daughter is 11, with autistic spectru, so have told her "just do your best and don't panic as you can't actualy fail"

Luckily the one subject that realy kills her is maths and she has been made exempt, so her maths is being marked based on previous work

Sats are to rate how well the school is doing not to the benefit of the kids who sit them.

When schools stop doing any lessons to concentrate on past papers of sats or just concentrating on getting their marks up, no wonder children feel the pressure.

I thought it is supposed to to see how far your child is at school, not to push the kids so much just to make the school look good.

Thanks HP!! That's a good reassurance but I do think they get brainwashed!!

We made a deal and I told him that then the results weren't as important as long as he tried and made the effort ie went to bed early, did extra practice etc - then I'd give him a really special treat. Fortunately he is expected to do well above average but I don't want him to sit back on his laurels and take it for granted that he will do ok.

Science tomorrow!!

Thought stats at 11yrs old, also effected which class you go in based on subject too?

Daughter is exempt due to disability, from her math sat, simply due to how much mental distress it wold cause along with the disruption, making her,sit such a test would have on rest of class...

I must ad,it, when my kids were at school I didn't.

I made sure my kids knew they were to try their best at everything they did, all year round, and didn't pander to the Sats.

I think long term is more important than overinflated results.

I had to sit the bloodt at every damn year in comp, it was ment to be a randomly pick bunch from each year (odd how my entire class, that just happened to be a very low grade set, got randomly picked, out of a whole year, 5 years in a row)

When your daughter goes to secondary school they will also chart her progress and at some point during the first term they will move children around into classes that will match their abilities....so its not all resting on SATs results...thats what they do at our childrens secondary school

I'm sure it has an effect on how they are placed at high school. Which is why we have encouraged our boy to do his best. Although it seems within a few weeks at high school, after settling in, they are given more tests to determine their placings.

But in all honesty, when the pressure is piled on, it is to do with the school's outcome and not the children.

A teacher is going to come along soon and blast me......

Quoted "Thought stats at 11yrs old, also effected which class you go in based on subject too?"

My eldest didn't do sats at primary so they were assessed on their ability throughout the year.

But if sats are overinflated and a child isn't quite ready to have all that information in their head and forgets it almost as fast as the sats, then being in a higher set won't help them in the long run.

Yep Bristol is pretty good atm, they are closing alot of schools down and rebuilding them as Academys, few of her friends are going to a sports academy

One thing they are finaly geting right, focusing a school on a set of subjects, so there budget is more focused..

I know we all have to do the boring English ,maths etc, but its good that schools can focus on other subjects as well.....not every child is going to be acedemic so to give them a chance to shine in other areas is a great thing, and great for their confidence as well...I wish her the best of luck xx

Sats are quite pointless and part of a discreditied education system in my opinion .The Academys are not actually performing very well at the moment .also i firmly think kids should be kids for as long as possible ...without these artificaial politically motivated

statistics .

Take GCSE's 5 years of training to obtain a level 2 qualification to allow you to move on to level 3 (A Levels or vocational btecs etc) where if ytou do not get the required 3 gcse at level C including english....or if you dont get em ....instead of 5 year training for gcse you can do a 1 year training programme at level 2 which replace em ....go figure that one ...

Dont even get me started on the educational elitism of Academic Verses Vocational training ...

dont stress your kids they will have a lifetime of that ...
