So long shift at work today I have been called everything under the sun including a cunt by customers told we are mere low paid scum all because a lorry was tipped at the wrong place and yet the stock was still showing to arrive at our store!

Used to have that all the time at my last job. I would never promise anything and would just give a estimate of 3 - 7 days.

Couldn't they go to the other store and pick it up ?

No you don't you are well within your rights to refer to another member of staff....for them to defuse the situation sometimes another person approach works

Have a virtual hug from us, its not just you, who ever invented the term "the customer is always right" needs shooting along with people who cant park.

We need a new saying "when somebody else fucks up, it aint the fault of the only face in the company you can find". Bit long winded though, think it needs work.

I get this kind of abuse on a daily basis at work, and I can't walk away or get another member of staff because they're usually isn't one.

Been one of those days take it OP. People don't realise how horrible some customers can be and we have it drummed into us that the customer is always right too. I feel your pain x

The company policy where I work now is refer the customer to Management in the first instance. Lots better

Don't feel deflated. Feel defiant. If your job has such policies as "leave your personal problems at home," then make a point of leaving your problems with your boss before heading home.

Surely you are within your rights to stop serving them if they verbally abuse you? If I get sworn at, in a work capacity, on the telephone or in person - I will say that I will not continue to deal with them unless they refrain from swearing. Usually I'll get an apology as lots of people swear without even thinking about it. If they carry on - I terminate the call or ask them to leave our office - and I've done that a few times.

Don't your company have a policy for dealing with aggressive/ confrontational customers? I'd have refused to deal with anyone who used the c word to me in a work capacity - end of ! Totally unnecessarry.
