60s for the British blues movement.

70s for soul, funk, classic rock, prog, fusion, blues and jazz.

80s for metal, classic rock, stadium rock and Vince DiCola (since I cant pinpoint what genre he belongs to).

And early 90s for original hip hop and Pearl Jam.

The last two decades are like everybody was saddened that 1999 wasnt the end of the world so they just gave up on trying.

Saying that New Wave Retro is so awesome. Check out Kaminsky and Andrioux!

I'm a tekno freak... so the years 91-94 were basically a golden age of experimentation and top notch electronic music imo.

Having said that, however, in terms of across a range of genres I'd say the decade spanning 1975-1985 marks an unprecedented era of musical development, experimentation, and eccentricity.

But it is possible to find music made since then which is much better made and more inspiring. It just takes some rummaging around to find it. It's that newer stuff which I tend to listen to the most these days...it's just better produced

I think that's a major problem with experimentation today. Production quality isn't there to merely make it sound good, it dictates style and content.

Listen to anything from before 2000 and other than in the vein of rhythm and melody, artists had their own unique sound and so did their individual instruments. I dont hear that now. Now it's all processed to be a perfect package with zero imperfections when those imperfections lent charm.

I love the close harmony vocal groups of the 50's, like The Platters and a bit earlier, The Inkspots but the 80's is where my heart (and youth) lie.

I think you're just listening to the wrong sort of music or going to the wrong place to find it. In recent years there's been a wonderful flourishing of bedroom made albums and a real resurgence in authenticity and imperfection, as well as sonic manipulation. Auto-tune, that horrible plugin that made everyone (even Russel Crowe) sound like they could hit a perfect note, has been mostly binned by the new breed of singer songwriters. Sure the good stuff never gets played on Radio 1... but then it never did

AC/DC, guns n roses etc got me into music at 13

I'm split between a total hardcore/screamo fan e.g BMTH, asking akexandria and a complete bass nut. Listening to skrillex, knife party, flux pavilion etc.

Each decade has produced some awesome artists but the experimental progress of dubstep in the past few years has been immense and has spawned music that you never thought you'd hear.

i like a wide rang of music but i tend to like the likes of wigan pier or even hardbase type of music

with others around i played a mix of music for myself it was loud and basey

85 onwards i tended to really detest the music but there was some good tracks in amongst a load of crap to me

For me it's for to be late 70s, early 80s... The time of *real* groove - you know, where you can really *feel* the music right deep down in your soul... Artists such as Stevie Wonder, George Duke, Prince, the Average White Band etc...

Funktastic

it's not that I'm looking in the wrong place, I'm just not so affected by modern music, but then I do make my own music and I don't want to compare it to what's out there because I'm not trying to make a pop song or to be the opposite. I like to experiment a lot and I don't know many likeminded musicians (and I do network a lot).

You think auto-tune has been binned? Most chart music is auto-tuned, there is not much real music about, It's all manufactured crap

just love the mid sixties to mid seventies.. for then everything was fab ,.. freedom in the air..the sexual revolution, the womens liberation movement, gay rights, civic n ethnic equality ,ecology biology ..when optimism ruled, the belief that we could do something ... music n ideas flowed.. the blues met jazz , country with rock, classical too.. nary a computer in sight ..as someone then said. ...imagine ... all the people....blah blah ..i know i,m a dreamer, but i,m not the only one.......oops then there is the monkees .. stones ..zappa .. mop tops.. dylan.. byrds .. the band ..and seventy two pages later we get to ..them .. the who ,.. woodstock... neil young...and of course jimi..so please please me .. make love not war ..and may peace n love fill the air...

Who gives a monkey's about chart music? Since when did anything half decent chart? Chart music, apart from a spate in the early 80's, has always been crap. As I said...you're looking for good music in the wrong place

These days, after the invention of the mp3 download, the only stuff that charts is the stuff that wants to chart i.e. teeny bopper crap that is trying to appeal to the 8-15 year old group. The big record labels have stopped spending money on getting new talent and spent it on hyping and selling the rubbish they've already signed. Instead the new talent gets groomed and sold out before our very eyes on talent shows on tv.

Meanwhile... somewhere out there on the internet... thousands and thousands of music producers are making new music for their own fans, going to them directly, and ignoring the charts entirely... throwing away auto-tune... and making some pretty awesome music in the process. It's hard to find these producers because the entire music industry now has it's back turned to them... but they are out there if you look for them
