Should newspapers be banned?

Jason Manford asked a question about Gaza/ Israel on Facebook, but the newspapers totally misquoted him and basically printed lies.

It's worrying the amount of people that believe what they read in newspapers. Is it time that newspapers were banned for printing blatant lies?

He was badly misquoted. Newspapers will manufacture stories given half a chance.

I follow Jason Manford on facebook and I've been to a few of his gigs and he comes over a really nice guy with a true concern for people.

The last time I saw him, he paused the gig when he realised some people couldn't see him and asked if there were any spare seats and then had the ushers assist these people into moving to where they could see him.

They did it with Usain Bolt a day or so ago (Mail).

Its bang out of order, they get around it by printing an apology further down the line. Which will be missed by most and too late anyway.

Banned 'No'. I dont buy them though.

I really like him. He seems a nice guy.

I don't think they should be banned because they are at least, a source of basic information - the whats and the wheres etc. I would never trust a newspaper's opinions though.

It all goes back to propaganda with the nazi's. but now its on a much wider spread through the media and unfortunately a lot of us are guilty of believing whatever is put in front of us rather... especially when it comes to bad news.

I don't really think they should be banned. I was too lazy to think of a proper thread intro.

It's annoying though how they print any tripe. Seems they did later do an apology to him. But (some) people will just read the headline and not the apology.
