Brugges is beautiful especially this time of year but if you want your duty free calais is best. Im going to belguim in september and using public transport as its easier. Im also going the peterborough route.

Peterborough to london, you get the eurostar from the same station and it takes you to brussels then train to brugges, easy. If you travel on a friday or saturday its going to work out more expensive

Was thinking going now fri or saturday...

Probably alone, some may think it's sad lol but travelling alone can be great, did it last year round the the greek islands (cruise) made some good friends, had a great time. unless there is some great "offers" to come with me lol.

Was thinking taking son but just found out his passport ran out ...

Nothing like planning in advance ... saying that though last year see the hols on weds and was boarding plane 2 days later

"Can't drive at the moment so public transport"

Lots of independent coach companies do day trips to France, mostly on a Friday Night / early Saturday morning, we tried the coach trip once, never again, we now go by car twice a year.

A little more subtle and HMRC may not notice and turn a blind eye

Supplies seem to be low (cough) not too worried about the sights more the withdrawal symptoms ..

Last thing I need is to be ferrying over there at the moment...

Arm in plaster not allowed to drive any golden boys/girls about

Up North :-)

Rotterdam is a great place to visit but so is Bruges.

PeterboroughLondonEurostarLille, which is much nicer than Calais IMHO.

With the exchange rate so diabolical, it is hardly worth the trouble, except perhaps for ciggies and tobacco.

My usual hotel of choice in Lille is the Ibis in the town centre.
