"Some ppl never listen and have no respect for others I've had this many times and asking Nicely doesn't seam to have any effect or do as someone as already said phone the police " She hasn't even tried. Slamming the window is an ambiguous signal. How are they really to know that she isn't waging war against moths? It's festival time for some. I hope none of you calling the police ever make any noise after 11pm. Make sure you never have a screamer visit.

"Cannot believe people are suggesting calling the police. It's the next door neighbours, knock on the door! Or ask them from out of the window if that's easier. Give them the benefit of communication before calling the riot squad in, why not!?" Why not call the police? Its an offence to make loud public noise after 11pm, so well within rights to call the police and report them for disturbing the peace.

If it goes on beyond midnight then I think the noise patrol could be used but as a first resort? I want my police doing more useful things.

For neighbours to do this without giving any notice to next door is bang out of order. As i said in a previous comment, shows they are inconsiderate of others so if it was me i would'nt hesitate to call the police and report them for it.

"I think they are polish" Go on Google, English to Polish translation and type the following into it ; "Have you noisy, inconsiderate neighbours ever wondered what would me, your neighbourly neighbour, happy". Print the search result and take it round to show them. Should keep em quiet for quite a while. Good luck.

Jeez, my Polish neighbour even changed his smoking location when I said it was drifting into my living room! I live in a poor inner city area - communication works.

"I don't know what the law is saying no loud music after 11pm (cos surely pubs n clubs wouldn't be excluded from law)...noise nuisance is an issue for environmental health at the local council n they can put measures in place etc which can ultimately lead to eviction (if council/housing association) or controls imposed to the landlord if private! The only thing the police can do is advise them of their anti social behaviour! Just my two penneth worth!" Why do you suppose licensed premises need to get late licences for events that run beyond a certain time?

"Oooooh I am going t write a note tomorrow and put in thru their door asking them to keep it down " Knock on the door and try to speak to them first, only leave them a note if you don't get any answer. It may take a bit more nerve, but it's by far the most likely way of getting them to consider your feelings. People tend to pay more attention to people they have communicated with. You may even get to know them.

If the neighbours had been drinking then thay are unlikely to listen to reason from a neighbour, more likely to listen to a uniformed police officer at the front door. Could maybe make an exception if it was a weekend but on a weeknight when people have to get up for work the next day its really not on.

"It's gone quiet now Result! Don't forget to go and chat to them tomorrow though if you can, you don't want it to happen again. The last neighbours where great no idea what language they spoke but they was quiet . " Sure, but these are new people, so it's a new situation. And because they don't speak English to each other doesn't necessarily mean they can't speak English with you, so you may as well try to get a friendly relationship started. Alternatively, you could take Centaur's advice, set up some sort of security camera to monitor their every move and hope to involve the authorities in all of your lives as soon as you can. "Is it really possible to be capable of meeting strangers via the internet, for sex but not be able to speak face-to-face to one's neighbours? I always tell neighbours in advance of any late parties i have to avoid any ill feeling. If neighbours don't give any notice then quite frankly they deserve to be reported. Some people don't plan out their entire lives minute by minute.....you never had a friend pop round, bbq, couple of drinks, ooopsie it's gone 11 pm.....how did that happen? Just like to reiterate this is the second night running it's happened " Exactly, if you allow them to get away with it then they will keep on doing it. If it happens tomorrow for a 3rd night in a row, call the police and put a stop to it.

Yes as the OP said this is the 2nd night in a row, and disturbing the peace and causing noise nuisance after 11pm is against the law people are well within their rights to report this kind of thing to the authorities. When they are doing this 2 nights in a row its just proves how inconsiderate they are of other neighbours, and generally inconsiderate people like that don't take any notice when you have a quiet neighbourly word in their ear.

"People just don't realise how much further sound travels in summer. I live in a detached house with a largish garden, my neighbours have similar homes. Problems occur when the weather gets warm an they have a barbecue at 7 in the evening inviting friends who bring large amounts of booze, the party goes on usually until 2am. Everybody has been drinking so conversations are loud enough to be heard 50 feet away, any sensibilities and restraint has long since disappeared. And foul language and music is heard all a cross the estate.the only people who can stop it is the police, banging on doors only gets 10 minutes quiet before it goes back to full volume. " Exactly the point i was trying to make, but you just can't reason with some people.

"All the stuff I hear about it not being like the old days and no sense of community etc. can all be solved by talking to each other. There will be the odd person/family that don't respond but most people are better face to face than sending hostile notes or the police. Just think how you would like to be treated if you had been naïvely breaching the peace?" You are making the assumption that they were doing this naively? For all you know they could be well aware they are not meant to be making loud noise after 11pm but just don't give a stuff about neighbours. Its been reported in the news that certain sections of the Roma community like to stay up late, drinking in the street and making a lot of noise. They are aware that this is an offence here in the uk but they just don't care or have any consideration for their neighbours or respect for the law either.

Most stories designed to appeal to the prejudices of a paper's readers are embellishments of the truth, to put it mildly.

There has been a discussion countering points made by others from both the pro and against police contingent. Conversation is good - it's how we get to know and learn about each other. Agreeing with everything presented tells us only one thing. Maybe two, on here, if the OP is female and the support is largely male. If you can't face seeing your neighbours then put a note through the door at least. At this stage you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"Ppl like that never do a good shut the fuck up would b better lol People like what? They may be on holiday and just enjoying the balmy evening/night. People like unconsiderate numpties who have no thought for anyone else but themselves i think he meant? I find that people enjoying themselves don't notice the time or realise they are being inconsiderate. A little bit of conversation has to be better for everyone than calling the police."

"Goodness me! There are some right gems in this thread I agree with all those who say communication is best" It should be the only option you need to take, but what happens if your polite request gets ignored? Heard the "host" say to his guests on more than one occasion as the door was being closed "its that c**t from next door complaining about the noise "F**k him, its my house and I'll do what I want in it, he doesn't own the street". so when the police do get called you are the one whose they know has complained and come in for all the aggro. One ex neighbour actually took his own kids to their grandparents because he knew they wouldn't be able to sleep with the noise his party would make, so he knew how much it would disrupt other children's sleep with his racket but as his own kids were well away from it he didn't care about anyone else's

"Oooooh I am going t write a note tomorrow and put in thru their door asking them to keep it down Just go and talk to them. They probably haven't a clue they are bothering you. Smile, be friendly, just ask them to keep it down late at night because they kept you awake." I agree. You dont have to worry they dont understand you. Its stereotype, most not British ppl dont speak in English. Your smile can much more help than letters or direct call to police ( its also regulation at the moment, police can ask you for call to your emergency council line, and council after taken your report will send you via post a form to fill in). Few years ago I had a similar situation.. after 3 times I called to police.. 2am with 8months child who was awake.. Now I have enemy behind the fence

"They are all asleep may need to go cut my grass " Best advice is to have a chat with them first, maybe they'll invite you to the festivities in future!...

"OMG my neighbours been in two days and both nights been out in the garden until late listening to their music talking very loudly in whatever language it is I have just slammed my bedroom window but they haven't taken the hint FFS!!! You can record the problem and get in touch with police and environmental health. What they are doing is breaking the law. Always have proof to back it up. Good luck " I tried that with no luck what so ever

"I don't take no notice if it is a one off here and there. If something is persistent, environmental health are apparently good. I get screaming mothers where I live, who don't know how to chastise their kids properly. To them screaming swear names at them seems to be the way, very charming. Her" I hate hearing that it's awful

" I feel your pain. My neighbors are the same. You may be glad you don't understand them. Mine are English and in this weather the kids can't have their window open because all you hear is fuck fuck fucking fuck and the like. This goes on till about three am sometimes. And of course their delightfully shite music.

After midnight they have to turn it off the council will provide you with a noise journal and the police will tell them to turn off the music as for the chatter that is harder have the same here but I can normally sleep through although I got her in my house and told her I can hear word for word what you are saying and I don't want to bear this in mind she went blood red realising we heard all her personal stuff in rows the road is quiet she is not alas I feel your pain. "Nuke the site from orbit......only way to be sure. " Yay! I said that on a thread the other day, too It's probably best going and having a chat with them about the hours they keep. Getting on with neighbours is more useful than rowing with them.

"They are all asleep may need to go cut my grass " Put the lawn mower on then do the hoovering and then put some music on full blast, see how they like a dose of their own medicine, and as its now the middle of the day you are within your right to make as much noise as you like.

Not necessarily...there is a helpful website about dealing with nuisance neighbours and point 1 is communication it's already been suggested writing a letter stating facts regarding their noise.....tit for tat is not the answer...I deal with the aftermath of neighbour disputes on a daily basis and see how it can escalate into mayhem...it's usually solved in mediation where they are able to communicate with each other

"It's the summer I'm sorry we are in our garden having a good time... Chill the fuk out" I suppose it depends on how late it is, and how noisy you are. Especially now when its hot and people have their windows open at bedtime. Also if your neighbours get up early for work or have children. All these things matter.

"I asked them to quieten the music as my daughter couldn't sleep and they did immedietly . It was a case of sign language as they didn't understand me . However they talk so loudly in the garden and I think they smoking out there . The land lord told me it was a family well it is a big family if it is as there is at least two couples and two kids living there away for a week from tomorrow will have to have a think . " If they responded to turning the music down immediately then be specific with them about how loud they are being when they speak. They gave you a good and immediate response on the music front.

"Why didn't you just ask in the first place? People aren't mind readers, you know. That said, the last time (when I was with my ex), I went round to ask a neighbour to turn the music down, I ended up staying on and getting rather d*unk.....oops. " I wasn't going down in the dark then I wasn't here this is the first chance I have had and first night my kids are here

We just asked over the fence if they had any and they came over and joined in.

"Ring up language line or the big word, they'll translate for you. " Or try sign language for speaking. Or give them a note they can read and translate.
