MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire)

Quiet, music, background noise...

What works best for you?

I'm procrastinating tonight and avoiding a bit of study thats not sinking in...

I like music on. Cannot study in silence

Titz Towers, North Notts

No distractions.

Although at Uni I was lucky enough to be studying a topic I loved and read the books for pleasure, which helped.

Music but instrumental only and not too dynamically exciting. Mozart and Schubert chamber music used to get me through all nighters during my degree.

If I am writing I listen to enigma... if studying it depends on my mood but whatever it is.. its loud so I can hear no other noise x

I study best at night.

I have music on or not depending on my mood but usually I prefer quiet.

I do a lot of a research and usually have the radio on but when it's difficult the volume gets lower and lower. For creative work I prefer lots of noise.

I start studying at postgrad level again in November. I'm really looking forward to it but after 17 years it may take me a bit of time to adjust.

Studies have shown that you recall information better in the same environment in which you studied/revised.

Therefore, at a desk in silence is probably the best place to study for an exam as it's unlikely they'd let you do the exam in your living room, listening to music with a spiff on

However, if I'm writing an assignment, it's usually in the living room, on my laptop, surrounded by books listening to music.

I need silence and to be well rested. The source material can be quite dry and dull (at least in my discipline) so if I'm slightly tired the chances are it will send me to sleep. Still as mine is mostly for practical use, I find it easier to remember if I do it rather than read about it.

Planning to study when I know my mind and body is most charged and able to do it is my major tip. I study in quiet or silence, and also remove other distractions. If stuff is on your mind, write it down and be committee to addressing it afterwards. And study in healthy blocks, so that you are not overloaded. Take rests, short walks and have good refreshments.
