Is The Sydney University Warning A Turn Off?

Jump to newest

When you see that silly Sydney University warning that sooo many people put on their profile does it make you feel all deflated... and turn you off the person or couple?

I can't help but feel it reflects poorly on the people who add it. Sometimes their write up about themselves is actually shorter than their warning to Sydney University lol

If it is otherwise a good profile it won't automatically turn me off, but if, as you say, the warning is longer than the profile then I do think that's a bit stupid, especially when there is no text or pics to even steal

I wouldn't say it necessarily turns me off, but I do believe it's stupid, irrelevant and simply has no meaning. It also suggests a herd mentality.

And so to a degree, it reflects on the person who has added it to their profile, and imho, not in a good way.

It appears people just follow like sheep BAAA !! dont they realise how many pictures are copied from sites like this every day by geeks wanking over their laptops pretending to be a supermodel or Bradd Pitt then posting them up on sites like Facebook etc !! come on people wake up and smell the coffee !!

Great thread

Restored my faith in forum users lol

To me the "disclaimer" shows a high degree of naivity and sheep-like tendencies. So quite a good filter tbh.

I've tried to actively encourage Syd to use our pics (for a price per pixel) but the buggers ain't biting!

Perhaps they realise the worth of these cross-country disclaimers

Deflated is a good choice of word by the OP

So well it may but don't forget when newbies register they may look at other profiles and think its needed and put it on the bottom of their profile so the herd cannot help it

Only if its the only thing on a profile however if they are verified its obviously no big deal to some is it

If Sydney University is undertaking research into swinging then they are taking their time. I suspect that it is, in reality, an urban myth and the sociologists at the University are laughing their socks off, inside their sandals.

maybe they don't know it's a load of tosh? In which case of give them the benefit of the doubt. Judging someone just because they have that on their profile sea bit stupid to me. When I started out I had it on mine as had no idea it was a load of crap.

It wouldn't stop me meeting someone but I do think its silly. I find the made up ones with an attempt at humour as bad. When you've seen similar a hundred times its hardly unique or funny is it.

These people would never contact a lawyer to sue as their pics are hardly going to be used in a magazine answered they wouldn't spend the thousands of pounds it would cost to defend.

And how exactly is it keeping anyone safe. Get rid of it, it does make people sound stupid

It's bollocks and we all know nobody is taking legal action. If content from a profile is used.

Cut and paste at it's finest normally

Them Tetly tea folk are time wasting picture collectors

No the warning doesn't bother me, problem is I don't read them most of the time, and some have taken the warning and made a humorous version that I only "see" if it comes up on the forum and I go and read it.

I'm not one for reading anything into a profile. Only a few things on a profile will put me off a man and an SU warning isn't one of them

It's daft but some people don't know it's pointless. They are just trying to protect themselves. They will learn.

I think the joke ones are dafter.

We see it more as someone who is following the crowd rather than trying to be informed. Admin have said many times before it's a waste of server space and could people take it down. The thing I have alway wondered is how much server space could be freed?

I'd like to think this thread has caused a few passers by to pull it off their profile

I agree it's not a deal breaker and everyone deserves the benefit of the doubt. But when someone's lovingly written a profile that makes you feel they're all sexy and intelligent and interesting...and then they stick this warning at the end...

I'm not being judgmental and would always give them the benefit of the doubt but when I come across the Sydney warning it casts a shadow of doubt across their intelligence, seeing as they apparently don't know how the internet works, and makes them look gullible and naive... are they really gonna spend all that money trying to pursue and sue someone for stealing a headless pic of their torso? It also begs the question...how much of the rest of their profile is copy and pasted?

So all in all I'd say it can't help but reflect poorly on the people who've added it...so maybe it's time to take it down guys

Oh and for all those lovely people who tried to spice it up by rewriting it in a funny way....sorry but the minute I see the words 'Sydney University' I immediately presume it's the warning and don't bother reading it... maybe you'd be best off writing a different joke

If you've taken the Sydney warning off your profile because of this thread let us know here and we'll give you a round of applause...and, who knows, you might even get a few winks

Well if that's the case, then people need to better aquaint themselves with the ways of the internet, instead of simply following the herd or flock! Just my opinion.
