Will speak to my mechanic and the bank of mum ![]() It'll come off fine with up on axle stands, I was reluctant to hit it hard enough because I o my had it on a trolley jack. That's also why it got better briefly, because I freed it up by belting it with a hammer.

"Could be a number of things. Wheel bearing, worn suspension component most likely the binding brake though, I had it on my old Alfa 156 one of the brake caliper sliders had corroded. Cleaned it and problem solved." It had new bearings at the last MOT and a new suspension thingy (you know how technical I am!) so perhaps the brakes are the place to turn. Oh well, if only I could afford a new car!

Because they only do about 30% of the braking they don't need pads/shoes anywhere near as often as the fronts so people just forget about them. They probably just want new springs and shoes, cheap as chips and about an hours labour.

Thank you ![]() Those tyres were from my last MOT, I'm not sure who put them on, I'll speak to him about it when I take it down and explain that you tried to get it off. At some point its going to need repairing because there's another slow puncture in it. Its always that side that gets them.

"yes, but remember you have no anti skid brake function as you approach that junction at speed !!! ps most garages have diagnostic machines now, if you take it to the main dealers it will cost loads and probably have to leave it with them for half a day" ABS can be useful but a lot of us managed to drive without skidding everywhere before it was invented/included widely on cars. I don't really get why driving without it is considered a problem by some, (not meaning the OP but just in general). On certain cars, in certain conditions it can actually be a hazard. Relying on such systems seems unwise to me. Drivers should learn to actually drive, rather than chuck their cars around and let the safety systems sort out any problems. They're nice to have extras, not essentials. My view is they can prevent serious repercussions resulting from mistakes but shouldn't be relied upon. All these systems are actually making some people less capable drivers, IMO.

This is very true, I think I've only ever had ABS cut in two or three times in all the years I've been driving (in the road, on track days it cutsin all the time). To the OP, yes, it's safe to drive as long as the brakes still stop you and the pads and discs are in good order.

"you can pic up car scanner's on eBay for about £20 now, having said that I don't think it was till 2004 that they started fitting a standard plug connection on all cars for the scanner, so you may have to fork out for the garage to scan it ![]() Like any man that stands up and shouts I've got a big un, you may have the tool but you've got to know how to use it!! ![]()

Yes, you can get the scanners cheap online but most can only access the engine module of the ECU and not stuff like ABS and ABS, you either need a computer program with a KKL interface (either modified or with adapters) or an ELM327 interface. With regards to the diagnostic port, nearly all of them have been 16pin since the early 90's (with a few exceptions) but the protocols changed, EOBD2 is now the standard and is what those scanner use, it has been standard on petrol engine'd cars since 2002 and on diesels since 2004.

Never go to Renault main dealers for a diagnosis. I had a niggling fault with a Megane diesel, I'd read the codes and replaced the required parts but it still wouldn't clear (P0487 in case you wondering). They charged me £109+VAT and gave me the same code and the same diagnosis and repair advice (new EGR valve). After many hours with a multimeter I managed to trace the fault to a faulty aircon pressure sensor!.....completely unrelated to what the fault code indicated with the exception that they shared an earth!

Will speak to my mechanic and the bank of mum ![]() Quick cheap way to get the wheel off is go to Kwik fit and ask for a brake check they should take the wheel off to properly check the brakes ! Then say you'll have to get back to them on wether you need the work doing lol
