I'm very much looking forward to the opening ceremony and the games,,,,, but I can't help feeling the opening ceremony could do without Rod Stewarts somewhat mockney Scottish-ness....

I mean.... they may as-well get Mel Gibson to lead out team Scotland too...

Put it this way, any Opening Ceremony has its cringeworthy moments, no matter which country is hosting it. There will always be negatives as well as positives; the organisers can't please everyone all the time.

And yet all of them will have heard of the UK and they see the Queen as the head of the Commonwealth.

If this does nothing more than raise awareness of the family of countries that make up the Commonwealth (the former colonies and their people) then that's a good thing.

On world atlases, it used to be the case that all countries in the commonwealth were coloured pink. Most if not all.

No special reason other than Pink being one of the four colours they used to distingiuish between countries.

I know. I'm from one of the pink bits. My voter registration form now says British (Commonwealth). That seems to be a newish thing.

The way I look at it is, regardless of whether its an entertainment spectacular ...... it is a chance to watch history in the making and lets face it there's not many opportunities in life where we get a say we saw we saw it happen live,,,,,

I believe there are soap operas on another channel and even one with repeats of top-gear ....

I don't know their colour but no one has won anything in these games yet.

Wiki says Mozambique won gold and silver at their Commonwealth debut in Kuala Lumpur and bronze in Melbourne.

Bit of research might have helped though as Move Any Mountain by The Shamen is kind of associated with the tragic death of its composer Will Sinnot, who died a few days after making the video for it.
