It is ok you know to rave about a programme which tackles delicate issues. Its ok to actually admit you enjoy such programmes, there are many fans of crime dramatisations which involve multiple murder.

I enjoyed it, its a programme that really grips.

I watched a similar programme a few months ago called the widower which was about a guy who murdered his first wife and attempted to murder his next two wives for financial gain.

I don't take these dramatisations to heart or get precious about the subject matter, even though I've worked for nearly 20 years in similar fields and I'm well aware of how distressing the reality is.

I watched it a few weeks ago, it's been on every week since. It makes you realise what goes on behind closed doors. In 1988 my best friend was murdered by her husband. The sad thing was until the night it had happened , there was no violence. They had a big row . It resulted in my friend being killed her husband then serving a life sentence and 5 young children having to go into care.

Somewhere in North Norfolk

When I was a child (from 7 on) we lived near to a couple without any idea that he was violent and assaulted and abused her frequently.

I only found out in the last few years and I was shocked. I never had a clue.

Apparently she went to the police, with injuries, several times only to be told, effectively that they were married, she was his property and he could pretty much do as he liked to her This was in 1980 onwards, and I expect he'd been doing it for a while.

She eventually divorced him but he lives in the same town and has harassed her ever since. He's vandalised her house and her car, got her into trouble at work by spreading lies and all sorts.

Their kids have cut him out of their lives and won't have anything to do with him.

Quite why nobody has taken him to the vet to have him put down like the sick animal he is is quite beyond me.

Which is one of the reasons I am sure the BBC is showing it so regularly at the moment.

Watching this I feel lucky now that my abusive relationship was before mobile phones. The stalking was bad but I didn't have the harassment of constant calls.

I've just watched this, it's horrendous, truly shocking, and very very real. I'm a 52 year old man sitting here with tears streaming down my face, I've seen that level of violence at first hand, meted out by my father to my mother, as a young teen lad I'd dread going home on a Friday or Saturday night in case the family home resembled a crime scene, it frequently was, to a certain extent I wish I hadn't just watched that program, although I guess it should be shown as some people have no idea this sort of thing goes on - it does, it definitely does, and it's freaking horrendous to see it, be caught up in it, to be part of it, and of course way back then you couldn't talk about it for fear if bringing shame on your family. Disturbing drama - well done to the makers.

She tried to leave then but it's never straightforward. I didn't leave the first time or the fourth. The mental abuse works on you. The control is everything. It took something really vile before I felt able to end it and he still followed me for three months.

My family begged me to take him back as to everyone else he was lovely.

This is all we can hope for. I found it so hard to leave for nearly a year.. living in a town miles away from home, and he had effectively stopped me having any new friends, so I had nowhere to run, and as I have no children, I was classed as 'low risk' at the crisis centres. Thank god for my friend here who came and got me from miles away, and put me in her spare room.

I had always said before I experienced that, that sufferers of abuse should just get out, it could never be that hard.. but boy, how wrong I was.

I watched this when it aired a few weeks ago during a weekday evening. Then saw a newspaper article the morning after showing the true story it was based on. Names and more.

Tragic but the real tragedy is that it's not an isolated or uncommon case.

I thought the film was very well done but the ending

Totally agree, glad it's being aired again as I missed it the first time around. Tough to watch, especialley this weekend but great tool for awareness.

Its a great example of how the manipulation and blame games make it harder to leave, and how it builds slowly in private before you realise it. Its so easy to say you'll be strong enough walk away if it happens to you, but then when it does, that first time, any reasonable person who cares is likely to look on how good it's been up until then and try to give a second chance. I think now, if you dont leave that first time, it really reinforces the situation, makes it spiral out of control.

With hindsight I wish there were stats on the number of relationships that have DV, then anger management and survived treatment to be better, healthier. I mean, do any over come it, does anger management or counselling ever work?

The girl that this documentary was based on was let down by the people that are here to protect us the police, there was 11 incidents reported none was acted on and they did not question as to why she was withdrawing complaints....the prep head butted her in a public shopping centre yet was not arrested...she was 21 years old when she was murdered...she tried to get help but was failed...officers were disciplined as a result of this case and lessons learnt...it's easy for people to say walk away from a violent relationship it's far more difficult to actually do it...I had a gun put to my head and that was the last straw I never looked back and I never will...

I found watching it very difficult. I've also been in an abusive relationship which lasted 6 years. 3 and a half years after I 'escaped' he still harasses me. One day I hope he will fall off a cliff!

Men and women who perpetrate this kind of abuse have serious issues and often don't realise they are doing anything wrong. Very sad. Hopefully times have changed enough now and more perps will be brought to justice since the laws have changed.
