FabSwingers.com forum: When does a little encouragement become unhealthy and pushy?

My lil one enjoys many things and providing she enjoys it then i encourage her and support her with various activities.

Singing is just a fun thing we both do together but i have noticed that she is actually pretty good (i think).. Im either 'blind' to what i'm actually hearing as its just a parent wanting their child to be amazing at everything kinda thing or does she have a potential talent worth developing?

Ever been in a similar situation? Witnessed some uber push parents?

It's difficult isn't it. Our daughter actually told me recently she thought I should have pushed her harder. So all I have to tell you is whatever you do will be wrong

haha im feeling that.. friends also say she is great but thats just the problem they are friends. unlikely to say 'shes crap'

She's only 4 so its all fun and games really and thats why i think she loves it as theres no pressure. Worried id destroy the fun factor if i got her lessons..

You'd find out for sure her level of talent from a session with a tutor. They certainly pull no punches, if she's got 'it' then she can only benefit.

true.. ive tried to youtube other 4yr olds as some kinda comparrison lol

Jays granddaughter has received a child of outstanding achievement certificate from ofsted in gymnastics so his daughter has enrolled her in a gymnastics club especially for children with talent.

I'm sure at 4 singing is just something kids enjoy not sure I'd be able to tell if one was better than the other, but you could get her singing lessons that would help

my daughter had singing lessons and she is gone from ok to pitch perfect.

she has passed her audition and is off to do musical theatre.

take your daughter to a professional tutor and see if she enjoys it.

its not cheap though , its usually about twenty to thirty pounds an hour

Swimming lessons at £4.20 for half an hour it is then lol

ultimately i would yes, but with me not working at the moment finances are already very limited.

I'd say as long as she continues to enjoy it then encouragement is a good thing, if your dragging her to singing lessons and she's kicking and screaming probably at that point is time to stop the lessons!

i really hope i never ever become like that, when the fun stops then she stops.I started her with ballet classes at 3 but she said she no longer wanted to go so stopped those.

my daughter made it onto bury gymnastics squad . it was a real achievement at the age of six. however it involved training three times a week. she got fed up and didn't want to so I didn't make her .

she recently told me I should have made her go because it would have helped her now.

can't bloody win with kids lol

Make a home vid of her singing, edit to the best bits and stick it on you-tube.

When the views are in the millions and the £££ roll in, pay for a tutor for her.

Rinse and repeat with BGT, X Factor, a single and an album and celebrate.

From an earlier post of yours, isn't time of the essence? Get on with it while there's still time. What a legacy it would be.
