Last night, I ( greek-american) was talking to this one hot british girl; however, her accent was so thick i couldn't understand her. It was if she was speaking another language.

Got me thinking, do Brits also have some difficulties understand the various British accents?

I have a pleasant southern Ireland accent which I know isn't British but I still find it hard to be understood, especially when I get in a temper.

Do you know where she was from?

I'm ok with most but when alcohol is added certain regional accents are tough I do have problems with the scot and scouse accents

But if she was hot who cares

Let's see how good I am picking up the accents, I think she is from Newcastle area.

She probably told me yesterday , but sounded might of said " newkingsbury" and I just shook my head saying that's nice!

If i see her out tonight, or before her holidays are up, I will ask her!

I travel about a fair bit, and I don't really have too much trouble with accents.

There are lots of insular communities in Britain though, filled with people who don't venture outside of their own postcode for years at a time - they probably have quite a bit of trouble understanding anybody else.

One of my girlfriends grew up in Glasgow - where her mum is from but has an accent that is also peppered with her dad's thick Irish one. She also speaks at a hundred miles and hour. People are always asking her to slow down when she speaks but luckily for me, I understand her just fine.

She then married a Liverpudlian and his accent is very strong. Their littles ones have great accents . I always find it interesting how children pick up the accent their parents have.

When my friend has had a drink, she speaks even more - intensely

Have another friend whose parents are from Barbados but he was born and raised in London. He has a full on Bajan accent to accompany his Queen's English

A north London accent is the best but then I am biased too posh ok yaa goes right through me same for lots of other areas in England a lilting Irish accent is so soothing. I just think Londoners are for the main part quick witted everyone else is slow witted - the old just cos I talks slow don't mean I'm stupid springs to mind
