The problem with these show is that they never really include the greatest guitar riffs, just the most popular.

Jonny Marr - great musician.

Morrissey on the other hand i could never get tired of slowly torturing him with a bunsen burner!

Agree with the above GnR Sweet child of mine & AC/DC Back in Black.

Mind you for the oldies on here intro to Lips & Hips by the Electric Boys is a catchy one too.

"Check my Brain by Alice in Chains...it's only one note that gets bent out of shape a little but it's a fucking great note!"

It's a great tune. Jerry Cantrell is a master of those droning riffs.

I'll add another to the greatest riffs list:

Perpetual Burn by Jason Becker. It's a masterpiece of virtuosity...

John Petrucci is an animal! I'm currently working my way through The Best Of Times solo. It starts off easy then gets ridiculously hard then back to easy again, there's also a hidden modal shift which caught me by surprise too.

Slash's solo in november rain, knophler in sultons near the end of the track, claptons layla, bits of voodoo chile, endless. Just shit on radio now. Speaks volumes when ya work with an 18 year old lad that will only listen to absolute 80's n 90's !

Is it as good as 'Walk' by Pantera or 'Unsung' by Helmet though?

Although I find it really cheesy now, THE song that made me realise that I only really like guitar music (and that consequently shaped the person I am, the clothes I wear, the places I like to go, and the people I've met) was 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'

Which was a (done on purpose) straight lift of 'More than a Feeling' anyway!

And the riff from 'Sweet Child of Mine' is a bit too close to 'Xanadu' by Rush to be a coincidence too.

Having this year been educated in guitars and rock music, I have to say that whilst it doesn't count as a riff some of the stunts Eddie Van Halen pulled were incredible....

But favourite riffs:

Sweet Child Of Mine

Smoke on the Water

Don't Stop (because it was the first one my bro learned!)

He-man Woman Hater-Extreme

Unchained-Van Halen

Nantucket Sleigh Ride-Mountain

Rock Candy-Montrose

Oh Well-Fleetwood Mac

Hot For Teacher-Van Halen

Blame It On The Boom Boom-Black Stone Cherry

Made Of Scars-Stone Sour

Black Rose-Thin Lizzy
