THOR IS NOW A WOMAN!!!?

Jump to newest

By (user no longer on site) OP

So Marvel have just introduced a whole new line up for the avengers comics which in turn could carry over to the films.

We have the "superior ironman"... the Falcon becomes Captain America

...

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY....

Thor is now a woman.

It's not lady Thor, or Thorina ... This is Thor but this time she's female.

What do we think? Are you ladies ready to see Chris Hemsworth Depart? Is this going to be a great role model for young women? Or is Marvel just bored..?

Or perhaps you don't even like comics and don't care

It's a comic thing. It won't effect the films at all.

I like that Marvel is putting some diversity into it's main characters.

If Thor's a guy he should stay a guy. It's as daft as making Dr Who a woman.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Chris Hemsworth already said he's only staying on for another year. Apparently filming the Avengers films is not as much fun as we think they would be.

It's been established that Time Lords can change sex, so the Doctor being a woman would be fine.

And it's been established in comics that other characters can have Thor's powers.

It will affect the movies, its already been discussed.

Basically Thor has lost his right to the hammer and a woman is far more worthy and inherits the powers.

She's fit alright, even wearing a mask.

So unbelievably peed off at this. OK, they are referring to THOR as a comic book character but he is based on a deity. One which I and many "heathens" revere. That they can do this and get away with it grinds my gears. If they made a comic book character called ALLAH there would be bloody murder let alone making that character a girl. Fume ..

How?

The hammer says "He who is worth to wield this hammer is Thor" therefore if a woman picks it up and is worthy then her sex must change so she fulfils the requirements of the hammer...

Maybe not PC but since when did fantasy have to be PC?

More to the point in the film world why does Thor not appear as his y human self with a cane in between bouts as Thor?

I think the image that the OP is referring to is a promo image for Avengers Now, a new publishing initiative from Marvel.

They are somewhat fond of alternate realities! Anyone for the Multiverse sagas?

To be honest I was a bit annoyed when they got some random black kid to be spiderman...

They killed Peter Parker and then some 12 year old gets his powers and I refused to read it.

But eventually I did and it was a cracking book.

I'm willing to give this a shot, see what happens. Who knows it might work.

So long as they don't make hulk Gay or something... I've nothing against gay men... But I feel sorry for the other guy because I assume hulk would be the dominant one.

Female Thor could be fun

It's a fictional fantasy world where anything can happen so I don't mind that Thor is now female.

It won't be permanent, they'll more than likely revert back to male Thor by the time Thor 3 comes out at the cinemas but it gives a chance to show some diversity in comics characters which are oversaturated by white male protagonists.

I doubt it will happen in the movies as audiences are a bit hard to adapt to change to things like that.

Another cool thing to note is that Captain America is black now as the role being taken over by The Falcon.

Also important to take note of, Thor has previously been a horse and a frog and everyone was fine with it so the fact that Thor is now a woman should not be a problem with anyone lol.

for the people who are agreeing making thor or doctor who a girl is stupid, why?

It's just a visual, a look. How the character acts is the important thing.

Especially with doctor who as the doctor is a different character everytime he changes. What's the difference beside 'oh i don't fancy them anymore'?

Clacton on sea, Essex

John as been collecting Marvel comics since they first came out in Britain & its changed a lot over the years so it might be quite good.

He now also has them in Digital format e.g. Spiderman 1-600 on a DVD which play on Windows, Android etc & going through even this amount of comics you see a massive change in the Spiderman format.

They won't make a movie of female Thor already, the comic hasn't even come out yet! lol. They don't know if people like the character or not.

Katee Sackhoff would more likely play Captain Marvel/Ms Marvel.

Marvel have just announced 5 dates for their films going up to 2019 which means that between now and 2019 we have 10 Marvel films in the next 5 years. It's likely one of those will be a female superhero, most likely Captain/Ms. Marvel.

Technically "Allah" is simply the Arabic Word for [the] God and isn't (or doesn't refer too) a specific deity. It is or has also been used by Arab & Malaysian Christians as well as some Jewish sects to refer to their God.

Thor on the other hand is a specifically named God best known from Norse mythology

Don't have a problem with it as such, as it's just another character taking on the mantle, as did Eric Masterson(who later received his own weapon and went on to distinguish himself as Thunderstrike).

My only issue is the idea of another character calling themselves 'Thor'. It's not like Thor is an alter ego- it's the name of the son of Odin who wielded Mjolnir. It'd be like someone replacing me and expecting my friends and family to treat that other person exactly the same, as opposed to someone replacing me in my job role...

In other words: someone filling in(and it really doesn't matter whether they're male or female) for Thor, ie doing the things he does while he's still unworthy of wielding Mjolnir, fine. Calling themselves Thor? Not so much
