.. i'll be honest im torn in my thoughts of if i like it or not.

For - guess it looks cute, child wont remember getting them done, child wont know any different and just grow up with them so wont faff n pull them out (studs)

Against - should one come loose it could be a choking hazard, wasn't the choice of the child (however when they become of an age they can easily take them out), kids in a playground might play rough and tear a stud out

Any other views?

yeah i feel that way too.. i saw a picture of my friends baby (6 months) and my eye was drawn to the over sized studs in her teeny ear lobes..

It makes my blood boil. Let them grow up and decide when they're older whether they want holes in their ears or not.

I see it in the same light as circumcision; - If it's not medically necessary, don't do it.

When my girls where 6ish they drove me insane, I caved in, and let them have it done in the 6 weeks holiday. One was fine. The other a nightmare! They got infected. I had to sit and squeeze puss out of her ears.. Then antibiotics. I took them out. She had them re-peirced when she was a teen.

I hate seeing them on babies, there's no need for it, the parents should wait until the child is old enough to understand and decide her self.

I saw a baby, about 1yr old getting her ears pierced in claires accessories ( I didn't know them ). And the poor little thing got such a fright when the girls pierced her ears, she nearly screamed the shop down, it was horrible

no laughing at me now..

when i went to get mine doe at the age of 8 i was so scared by the sound of the gun that i refused to get the 2nd one done.. i looked a right tit only having one pierced.

i remember that first night trying not to sleep on it, and putting my hair up so that id not get it tangled. i truly was a right fuss pott.

Thats why part of me thinks the younger its doe they wont fuss with it and will just grow up thinking its normal

They have an age restriction, on other piercing s, tattoos etc... Maybe after my experience with my girls ear peircing malarkey.. The same rules should be applied.... and yes I know it would get by-passed by some.

It should be made illegal to pierce a baby's ears. It's nothing short of an assault in my opinion. A baby doesn't understand the process or the consequences and can't give consent. I also think it looks awful - cheap and tacky. Sticking jewellery on a baby isn't necessary. A baby is pure and innocent and looks beautiful without artificial adornment. Plus the earlobes continue growing into adulthood so the holes often end up looking too low down on adults who had their ears pierced as babies.

I never allowed my daughters to have their ears pierced until they were at secondary school and less likely to sustain injury from playground rough and tumble. I felt they were old enough to make an informed decision at that age. Two of my four daughters decided they didn't like the look so never bothered.

Not keen myself but they are not my kids, we all just do what we feel right for our own, all my girls were 13 before they had their ears pierced, that was just the age i felt was right for them to decide, other will not agree of course

Yet it's not illegal, and it's reversible, very small children cope with pain better than the over ones, and as a society we allow parents to do things that are much worse IMHO. I'm not saying I agree with it, I just think there are other more important battles that we should be fighting.

Yes they won't fiddle with them as much but then the same could be said for waiting till they are old enough to understand that they shouldn't touch them. I was about 9 when i had mine done. And looking back that's too young I think maybe secondary school Age and only Accompanied by an adult.

A girl lives near me had her girls done at a few months but was shortly on Facebook upset at having to take her to get her vaccinations done!

My daughter begged and begged but I wouldn't let her have them done until she was thirteen. She's sixteen know and asking for a nose piercing.

It's a shame that places like Claire's Accessories don't have minimum age restrictions in place...my local jewellers refuses to pierce any child under 10 and won't at all if they are upset or scared. I've seen a toddler pinned down and hysterical and it was horrific!

I had mine pierced aged 5, but because my best friend (who was Spanish) had her's done at 24 hours old I'd been begging my parents for ages...by the time I was 14 I had 4 piercings in each ear and my navel too, all of these without my parents involvment. I've never had any problems thankfully or regretted having so many but I doubt I'd feel the same if my parents had imposed their preferences on me.

I was in a hairdressers once when a woman came in wanting her baby's ears pierced. It must have been only around 6 months old and sat on her lap all smiley not knowing what was happening. The first ear was pierced and the baby screamed the place down - she was bright red in the face, wriggling and dribbling with distress. The piercer said she wasn't keen on doing the other one but the mother just gripped the child with one arm, tilted its head with the other and said 'nahh - go on - do it quick!'

I hated taking mie for their jabs but it had to be done,i wouldn't inflict any pain that wasn't necessary on my child,at my kids school all jewelry had to be taken off anyway for health and safety reasons,especialy earings,i once saw a 13 year old rip a girls earing out when they were having a fight,she was mortified when she realised what she had done but it was too late then

I got mine done for my wedding. After the first one I asked them to hold on a sec for me to get over the trauma of the first one...I was 20!

I don't like babies with pierced ears and only did my girls when they asked...around aged 10.

whenever I see babies or toddlers with ear rings \ studs their parents ALWAYS look like something of Jeremy Kyle.

I think boys of any age look ridiculous with ear rings but girls for me once they are around 8 years old if they want them I think that's about the earliest age for them.

yes but is it normal? surely the recipient should make the decision unless its a medical issue and the parents need to decide (personal opinion of course )

I had to get mine re pierced recently as I'd not worn earrings for a year. I can't think of many women who don't have pierced ears. Schools don't allow any earrings in Primary and only small studs in Secondary

Yes but there's parenting and then there's mutilation.

Hmmm that's a difficult one for me. I understand both side of the argument. I had mine done when i was a baby. Now i choose on and off to wearing earings or not.

It's a very common and cultural thing to do in France and especially in the Caribbean. The style of earings used is suitable for under 3s and safe.

Plus, ear piercing in France/Carribean is done by jewellers which is not the case in the UK i believe and this would put me off, even for an adult to be honest. But that's because of what I have been used to.

Some places won't pierce children under 12/14. Personally, I think it should be left up to the child whether to be pierced or not. Ok, it can be taken out, but can leave a small scar. Furthermore, babies and small children put their hands everywhere and thus the piercing can easily become infected.

I had to wait until I was an adult to have my ears pierced, as my mother was against me having them.
