Hi,

We are off to Turkey soon and would like some advice on which currency to take.

I have booked my hotels separately and will need to pay on arrival £500. Should I pay them in Pounds, Euros or Liras? And should I change my money at the post office before I go..or do it there?

Also not sure what to do about my mobile ..I'd like to access 3G..but T-mobiles roaming is expensive .. I have an iPhone 5 which isn't unlocked..

Any help appreciated

I hope this helps

Check hotel on trip advisor... See if they have WiFi. You must switch roaming off on your phone as everything updating such as bookface incurs cost

Thanks ... think I will take pounds .. and a few Liras /Euros for bits and bobs.

Shame debits cards are expensive to use ..as don't really want to be walking around with a load of cash everywhere..

My hotels have wifi... but I meant 3G if I was out and about .. T-Mobile won't activate roaming abroad..you have to buy it..£10 a day!..

Relocating can be expensive. But there’s a lot you can do to make sure your money is spent wisely. You should get your money matters sorted out as soon as possible: know when to move cash and where to bank it – particularly if you’re changing currencies. Using your own SIM CARD from your current GSM operator is the most comfortable but probably the most expensive way of using cell phones in Turkey. In order to use your own SIM CARD, your phone and your calling plan has to be suitable for International Roaming. Contact your GSM operator to find out if you can use your phone abroad or to activate your plan for International Roaming.Currently there are 3 GSM operators in Turkey. Turkcell, Vodafone and Avea. All of them has Prepaid and Postpaid plans. In Turkey, cell phone users are not charged for the calls they received. So if you are planning to use the cell phone for a short time or just want to be reachable in Turkey choose the Prepaid SIM cards. Using Prepaid Sim Cards are more expensive than Postpaid Subscriber plans so if you are planning to live in Turkey check the Postpaid plan rates of the Turkish GSM operators.
