Supplements don't really do that any way unless you take a Mass Gainer which has lots of carbs and Protein to put on weight. Creatine will help with your work out and your recovery, so will a good protein shake after a work out also.

"if its just a hobby ..what is wrong with just eating a good diet ? ..im not a gym bunny ..it is a genuine question" Eating a good diet will get you so far and in most cases is all that people need depending on what they actually want to achieve. I for many years didn't use protein supplements or any extra's and you reach a certain level. The I tried using BCAA (Branch Chain amino acids) before and after work outs and noticed an increase in my training. The progressed to Creatine which again added another level. Now I use pre work out drinks for extra focus and durability and I always have a protein shake post work out and I gained mass using these. No improving diet to include the right balance of protein / carbs and good fats. It starts as hobbies then changes to a life style. Some shakes taste awful but I have found 2 to be really nice. Garnell is one make and PHD being the other.

I use Dolphin fitness for my stuff the tend to be the cheapest and be reviews are very good.

"If all you're looking for is a toned body then you are wasting your money. All you need to do is diet, plenty of lean meat, high gi carbs like wholemeal and fruit/veg. Then get the gym to do you a routine that will burn off the fat and tone. It's as much , what you do as food. " Why would taking creatine mean he is wasting his money? If he wants tonnage then he needs high intensity and high volume training. Creatine will help massively with achieving that

"You just need food, and top it up with a shake, but you need to bulk up, to cut down, and the idea is to eat little but often big chinese carton size portions 4/5 times a day .... And most Important tip of all! Hard sessions if you don't feel the burn you're not doing it right lol " Bro science. Get lean first, improve your sensitivity to insulin, and let carbs work in your favour storing sugars as muscle glycogen rather than "bulking up" and getting fat. It depends on your starting point. Instead of wasting money unknowingly on expensive foods and supplements, find a decent personal trainer who works with you to reach your goals.

Chicken and rice pasta peanut butter ect ect!! Like you said it depends on the starting point! Say the man wants to be 13 stone! bulk up 14/14half stone and then cut down to 13 through hard work and in the process he will tone up!!?

Eating meat and fish 3-5 times a day is more expensive than porridge, a sandwich, then pasta for dinner yes. Im not saying he wont get bigger. But why bulk, get fat, slow your metabolism, reduce your sensitivity to insulin, when with proper dieting you can remain lean all year and add muscle? Google UP fitness or strength sensei.

"I have been on and off from the gym for a few years but really want to get back into it now . I have spent a lot of money on various supplements . Some seem too work some don't . Whats the best thing to buy ? I know I will get various answers but I just mean thing like creatine and protein ..Do they work or waste of money . Thanks " They help but they arnt going to do the work for you. Protein helps purely cause eating masses of chicken gets boring and it's easier to eat and digest in the short win do after exercise. Creatine can help you get a little bit more our of your self but needs to be taken religiously to a tally stay topped up, and you'll only ever really notice the effect it had when you stop. If you really want to see results the only thing that will do it is not going "off and on again" but going reguarly with a set sensible routine and a constant gentle increase in weight. Strong lifts 5x5 is a good intro into the main compound lifts for good strength and a slow but constant build in weight. Bes thing to buy is the giant bag of rice and the giant bag of frozen chicken breast.

"The only supplement that has been shown to 'work' (in the sense that it aids muscle recovery) in proper trials is creatine monohydrate ("Purer" forms actually don't seem to be used by the body in the same way). Powdered proteins are fine (Whey, Casein), if you can't eat enough in your diet (I like them because they are cheaper than meat, and I'm poor), but they don't 'do' anything that other protein sources would. Aim for 1g protein/500g of your lean body mass (you can work this out online) per day. Adjust your calories depending on whether you want to bulk or cut - recomping is a lot of effort, IME. Aim for a lifting program with progressive overload/reps - for the most 'bang' for your buck, you still can't beat the 'big lifts' (squat, dead, bench, OHP) - base your workout around those. " I always found casein was great about half an hour before bed. Makes you feel nicely full and sleepy. That or the baileys I used to mix with it

I suppose supplements to give the body what it needs before and after a workout " Yes, they supply the raw materials to build muscle and burn fuel. Plenty of good quality protein in the diet will do that too, but there would come a point when training would create a demand over an above what an ordinary diet could supply, so for most people supplements are 'just in case'. Whey protein still counts as a 'food' source anyway - I found a vanilla one that was delicious!
