I have a 1tg external hard drive. I plug it into the laptop and the laptop acknowledges that it is there but the hard drive itself doesnt do the whirry thing it usually does when it starts up.

Can this be easily investigated and fixed?

If not, is it possible to somehow get the information from it?

thanks muchly in advance

Send their customer service an email explaining what's happened.

They'll advise you what to do next.

Or, look for the serial number, and google problems with that hdd.

9 times out of 10 it's just your power pack that has gone which is inside the hard drive case. Take it to somewhere like Maplins and explain what has happened. There are devices you can buy to transfer your data. £25-£40

Yeah I got one. People call them "caddys".

i had an iomega that stopped working after a year. an ex plugged it into his vista (apparently one of the few things vista is good for is helping with a lot of external hd issues - something was wrong with the externals registry and vista sorted it out)

but 2 weeks later it packed up totally - turned it on and it just keeps 'clicking'

good luck with yours - i wont be getting another iomega again
