So a couple of threads got me thinking

If you have to work on your birthday, do you take in cakes etc. for your colleagues ?

And if you don't, are you a Billy no mates leper ?

I do and my colleagues always make a big fuss about birthdays, all 10 of them buy small gifts and we make a point of wrapping nicely. Sometimes when you are an adult you forget to spoil yourself so we make a point of spoiling each other on those days

That's really nice.

I'm a big believer in enjoying life's small every day pleasures

Only a few in our office but we go out for luch and the rest of us pay for the birthday boy/girl. If the birthday falls over the weekend, we go out the following week.

Titz Towers, North Notts

It's been a while since I've worked in that kind of environment, but I always pushed the boat out, with lots of cherry cake, marzipan and dark chocolate.

I took buns for the kids on my birthday at work this year.

That was the highlight of the worst birthday I've ever had. The rest of it was a tearful, sad, let down affair where I became a year older.

My friends are throwing me an unbirthday party this year. I'm not letting anyone else try to fuck up my birthdays in future!

I have never told anyone when my birthday is, I prefer to keep it to myself and celebrate it with my OH, in style.

It works really well if you work in a tight knit team, but in some of the bigger workplaces it can all get a bit silly having to buy cakes for people who's names you aren't even sure you know.

I try to not work on my birthday.

What about when the birthday card and envelope comes round for the birthday boy or girl and you don't even know them !

I usually try and have my birthday off, but it falls in the summer hols, and it's not usually a problem. Personally I don't like the fuss, but will take in a tray of cupcakes or something around about the date
