Bradford

After watch the TDF, I found myself getting annoyed at the commentator pronouncing local place names as they are spelt.

For example, Greetland is all one word. Greet Land, sounds like a happy place where people say hello to each other 24/7.

Sowerby, pronounced Sawby, not Sow er by.

Americans and Bradford. Brad Ford sounds like a news reader.

Anyone got a place that sounds different near them?

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

I had to do a spelling test when I went for a job at BT. I got Guiseley wrong because she pronounced it 'Geezley'. And don't even get me started on Slaithwaite. I swear people pronounce it any way they damn well please.

Lol did that test too about 30 years ago, got them right, but when they said what the hours were for the money I said, " nah not interested" but yes people do pronounce any darnnn way but the local way should always be used, me thinks
