The necessary evil known as a house move may soon be upon me.

In my infinite wisdom I've decided to sell up and move closer to my mother ... seen what I want to buy but busy prepping this place for selling.

I'm camping out in my own home while it's being painted and papered and odd jobs done.

I've already got arguments over who gets which room and how many. Family all wanting B&B for a weekend here and there ,and I haven't even sold on this or bought the other bloody house yet!!!!

Come on you lot, share with us your packing, decorating and moving disasters.

May make things a bit more bearable for me hearing/reading the grimmest tales .... reward for the best? a dedicated paint roller.

That sounds really heartless of your landlord to give you such short notice to quit and at that time of year.

Having to move from a four bed house in Shropshire to a two bed house in Kent within the space of two weeks!

Very very stressful and had to decide what to take and what to leave/give away.

I hate house moving

My last move was similar, from a five bed to this tiny two bed and I was really ill. It was November and that's about all I remember of the move.

Fingers crossed it's to a bigger place this next time. xx

Since we got married we have had fourteen houses.

I was in agriculture and moved about from Denmark to Wales, some jobs lasted between three months and a year and each job came with a house.

Given farming up.

I was in the RAF and did about the same number of house moves, both here and abroad with two young kids playing in the packing boxes ...... no idea how I managed it then and even less idea now!

Towards the end family members would become ill or suddenly go on holiday.

Our last move from Pembrokeshire back to Hampshire was just us five as a family with kids ranging from nine to fourteen, it took two trips with a hired 7 1/2 ton lorry and an old army lorry.

We still have stuff in loft that has never been unpacked.

No.

We have had experience helping others as well.

Whilst in Wales a local guy asked if I could use my army lorry to help him move.

Sure I said, I mean how much stuff can a single guy have?.

An utterly unbelievable amount actually.

The guy was a nutter, he would just buy stuff from charity shops in the hope that one day it would have a value.

His rooms had corridors with columns of junk......

It took three of us five days to move his stuff.

Why boiler parts? What happened with the cushion saga?

OP, I don't do moving. I've been here 21 years and have no plans to move unless I win the lottery or get so poor I have to move to Pity Me.

It certainly is stressful.

We are buying a house at the moment that we are going to have to completely renovate before we move in.

We feel your pain! But hopefully it will all be worth it for all of us. Good luck!

My partner and I rebuilt our last home from a hole in the ground with four bare walls ........ it's a hard slog but very satisfying knowing you are building it to your own specifications and needs, something as simple as making all the units in the kitchen taller than standard because of my bad back was great. Good luck. xx

We sold our flat and moved in to a 3bed house all our budget was gone due to fees but we had help from friends and family to move our goods.

We got the keys started moving in and the first thing we smelt was gas so called the gas man out who condemned our boiler.

It cost us a fair bit to get fixed but also fucked all the upstairs floor boards so they had to be fixed too

Started to find all the other bodge jobs soon after
