Sean Kelly broke his collar bone once and got back on his bike and did a few miles in agony before he realised he had to pack. A few riders have finished stages ripped to shreds and with broken bones in the past.

Pascal Simon fractured his shoulder while in yellow and carried on for several days.

True.

But hitting the floor at 30 plus mph with zero protection hurts a lot. Cyclists are hard as nails for their ability to get back up and back on the bike

Johnny Hoogerland. He still has scars on his legs from it, awful accident. He's riding for an Italian team now who aren't at the level required to get a start in the tour

Over 10,000 watching on buttertubs pass,over a million overall, just had guy on from the police control.

Great crowd watching big screen in sheff...and its a lovely sunny day with the Selector headlining a free gig tonight.

Might head for Jawbone hill tomorrow to see the Tour.

It was said there was over 800,000 people lining the route to watch the stage in yorkshire. Shame about Cavendish, just watched the highlights and it said it could be a detached ligament.

As for cyclists getting back on the bike after a fall, Shane Sutton came off on a stage of the Tour of Britain breaking his collar bone. He rode over 9 miles into Liverpool, just to get to the end of the race. Lots of people are right you do pedal with your legs, you need your arms for steering and braking. It can be hard to control the bike at speeds up to and sometimes over 30 mph.
