The report found that people who like having casual sex is a rewarding experience.

I think it's a funny cycle for some, e.g. There are a lot more men than women, therefore more attention on women which can boost their esteem, if their awareness isn't that great. Alternatively, this could impact their actual esteem negatively if not managed correctly.

I'd suggest that it's all individual really?

Indeed. The detail of the report suggests that those with low self-esteem who don't enjoy casual sex don't get a boost to their self-esteem.

It was a study on students - largely young men.

A casual sexual encounter does give me a self esteem boost. Emphasis on the boost. My self esteem is based on many parts of my life that I work on. But it does give me a boost, I'll be on a high for a few days after a meet.

If people are flattering you it does and lets be honest you go off it if people aren't flattering you. I get the opinion a lot join sites like this not for the sex but the flattery they get and the way it makes them feel more confident.

In fact if my self-esteem is already wobbly, it can make me feel worse about myself.

I met Mr. Came-in-less-than-10-mins-and-left when I was feeling less than great about myself. I wouldn't have been persuaded to meet him otherwise.

That meet put me off sex for the best part of a year. It made me feel dreadful about myself when the problem was that he was a twat and was not that there was anything wrong with me at all.

I'm more likely to avoid meeting when my self-esteem is poor because I know I'm more at risk of getting hurt.

this. yes, id agree here, although ive yet to have a bad meet - although I have read some horror stories in other threads - but theyre good as if anything like those situations occurs I know I wont be the first to encounter it, so a lot of the battle stories (!) here are great for that , meaning that so far - fab has been a positive experience, and even it it all stopped tomorrow - its been one heck of a ride..

My general confidence has improved since being on here. I now know my likes and dislikes, I know that it's ok if I'm different to other people (and sometimes the same). I'm not afraid to say what I do and don't like.

Swinging is a massive umbrella, not a narrow specification (no matter what some people think!!).

We all belong in it in our own way.
