Pet lovers only (need a rant)

On Monday at 2.08pm my beloved cat took his final journey to Rainbow Bridge. I posted it on his facebook and have now blocked 9 so called "friends" for saying he was only a cat; get another one; Pets die etc. He was not just a cat he was a furry member of the family who just happened to be short, hairy, have four legs and a tail but could still shout "Mum". He was part of my life for 18 years, 6 months and 10 days and in that time I have no idea just how many times he saved my life. Im epileptic (see its out there in public now) and I could not begin to count number of times I have come round on the floor with a paw in my mouth and claws in my tongue. Why the hell cant some people accept that those of us owned but pets need to grieve when they leave us? Suppose i will be blocking more when i get my memorial tattoo .... A paw print on my wrist; just under my thumb seems a fitting reminder to him who had to be obeyed. Rant over; sorry just needed to let it out x

They aren't just pets, they really are members of the family. Have cried many a time in my life over the death of a pet. Hugs for you xxxxxxx sez x

Really sorry to hear of the loss of your pet.

Pets become part of the family, and it can be really hard when one passes away. When we lost our family dog I was really upset, my brother even more so he was very young when we first had him.

Its best to ignore those that say its just a pet you can get another one.. They are not worth being upset over.

I have raised 3 generations of Border Collies from pups and many a tear was shed each time one of them went to the great kennel in the sky. I have never owned or should I say been owned by a cat, but I certainly feel your pain. That will pass, but the memories will last forever x

Sadly, some people don't understand what the meaning of the pets. If treated how they should be they part of the family.

I mmiss having a dog, but it wouldn't be fair to have one due to the hours I work. . Im sorry to hear about your cat. Try thinking of all the times you had together , rather than what others think. X

My oldest cat is 17 and if I have the same experience on facebook I will be doing exactly what you did. I love all of my cats deeply and if someone didn't understand or respect that then they can fuck off. You did the right thing.

My dogs are part of my family, they each have their own very distinctive personality. They each greet me when I come home, for nothing but petting. My friends wouldn't even dare tell me they're just a pet, they all know. Besides, without them, who would keep my feet nice and toasty in the winter. I am sorry you lost your friend.

Pets are special, and to be honest pet isn't a term I like to use, they are part of the family. I lost my dog 2 years ago and still get upset thinking about him.

He was always there through hard times and no matter what his love was unconditional.

A family member can not be replaced and the void will always be there. I feel sorry for people who advise to get a new one as they were only a pet as they clearly have never been touched by the sweet and sensitive nature of an animal.

My cat Sugar is like a best friend, I'd be well pissed off if someone said she was only a car and to get over it. Also I swear she has a sixth sense, I'm sure she can tell when I'm happy or sad lol now I sound like a mad cat man, but I don't care. Sugar the Cat is proper boss! Lol x

When someone gets a pet it automatically becomes part of the family and becomes almost human except it is actually better than human as most are loyal and loving for life

they are always there when you are down and always a comfort

only pet owners understand this

Sounds like a well loved pet. Every thing dies sadly, we love, lose and mourn. Don't let the negativity from others add to your grief.

I'm sorry you lost your pet and your friend. Yes thats loopy of me but animals are our friends and family members as they live a long time. I had to put my cat to sleep after 17 years and cried like a baby in the vet. Took five years before I got another, so you grieve and post your feelings. Friends will support you, those who don't aren't worth knowing x

sorry to hear that, dont blame you for blocking them, i hate people like that.

i didnt realise just how much i would miss my first dog i had when it died, about 15 years ago now and i still miss her. we even cried when our guinee pig died. Anyway i love animals think they are nicer than most people.

he was a good age, you must of looked after him well.

Dont take any notice of people who say he was just a cat there are plenty of people like us who do care about animals. my son put it on facebook when our little dog died too, we had her since he was 12 and she was 16 when she died.

Awww poor you I loved my cat Brian he helped me when my partner died he wouldn't leave my side EVER he used to meet me on the corner I would open my car door and he would jump in and ride back home with me . He was a shoulder cat would wrap himself round me like a scarf . I loved my Brian

I feel for u too x it's so sad when pets die I had two cats of my own both lived to good ages x now I understand when as a child I would ask my parents for a pet and they were very reluctant to get them not because of mess or smell was because they had to deal with the vet each time one was old or ill x I personally can't go through that again twice I had to deal with puting them to sleep can't do it again x made that promise to myself x

Some people just don't get as emotionally attached to animals as others.

I have 2 cats, i love and care for them but I don't think.I will be overly emotional when they die.

I would never say 'oh I can get another one' but I don't place human emotions on animals so I don't think I would get distraught over losing them.

Of course that could all be bollocks and I'll be an emotional wreck when the time comes lol

having never had a pet upto us early retiring, i would have said the same as the people you have blocked.

but a year ago, we decided to retire early and got ourselves a springer spaniel, she is now not only part of the family but has changed our life so much that we organize days out etc around her, in fact, she has taken over our lives lol

we adore her and love her unconditionally as much as she does us, so now, our opinions have completely changed regarding pets, we could not imagine our life without our Rosie now.

OP, look on the positive side you've got rid of some folks who you thought were 'friends' on fb..

been there when we lost our dog after 12 and a half yrs, have 2 more now and can totally relate to how your feeling..

I really feel for you OP, my dogs are part of my family and I'll be devastated if/when my older dog goes. I was just saying to my son last night, apart from him she is the only other living link to his deceased dad. He bought her as a pup for me when my lad was only a few months old. They are now 16 and 15 and I know the days are numbered with my beloved dog.

Sounds an amazing cat, so sorry you lost him!! I love my cats dearly, but I am very much one of the 'get straight back on the horse' in mind. Last time I went straight down the Blue Cross home and fell in love with a kitten on sight, she was her spitting image!! When you lose one, it really helps to have another to love.

I would be devastated if my cat died. She is like a third child. She sits on my lap when i watch tv. She curls up to me when ever I am ill. I often wake up and she is asleep on me. She is so my little baby. My girls adore her like a family member too.

That is a horrible thing to say to a parent that has lost a baby.

I miscarried and people said at least it wasn't actually alive yet. People can be so cruel and heartless

Firstly sorry for ur loss hon xx we ourselves lost one of our cats last tues he'd been ran over and left in the middle of the road right outside our house (luckly hubby found him before anyone else ran over his body again) to some a pet is just that a pet, he was my best friend and I totally feel apart, I still can not bring myself to move his bowl atm, to see ur pets lifeless body and know he will never snuggle in bed with me or i'll never see him rolling round the floor to tell me its dinner time is hard to take and my children who r 8 and 14 where just as devestated my 14 son sat in the garden for 3 hrs talking to him and cleaning him up, let someone watch that then tell me he was just a cat, and I wont even mention what i'd do if I found the person who did it and not cause they ran him over but because they left him in the middle of the road xxx

Sorry to hear about you losing your cat, I'm on cats 5 and 6 now and each has there Own unique personality and is a true member of the family.

My last loss I had for 19 years and would greet Me home from work each day and meow a hello sound he did for no one else.

I loved him dearly and cried my eyes out when had to make that last awful visit to the vets to put him to sleep.

There are those who have pets and love animals and those that don't. I'm glad I'm part of the former group.

Remember your cat fondly and when ready give a New cat a loving home too

My cat Sugar is my best friend... even if she does lie on my freshly dried clothes and covers them with hair! Haha

A real friend would know how much your pet meant to you, so you're better off without them. Good riddance

I lodt my little Persian a couple of days before Christmas to kidney failure. She was only 3 but it was absolutely heart breaking. They do become part of your family so big hugs to you xxx

My brother lost his dog at the weekend, he and his son were digging a hole in the garden to bury him and caused a major incident.

They went through a gas pipe ..... neighbours and them evacuated, three counties sent out fire tenders and the gas board dug them a fekk off big hole. Eventually they all got to bed around four am.

Wee Barney would have loved his send off.

I inherited my mams 10yr old cat who wasnt particularly impressed with me or his new home but he lasted another 8yrs & after he died for weeks after I was still finding myself going to talk to him n he wasnt there. He came to bed with me everynight n slept on the pillow next to me . I realised he was my replacement boyfriend

Think the hardest thing for us is sticking to our guns and giving ourselves a break when the time comes, the poor wee dug has filled up our darkest nights but im sticking to my guns & never say never but we wlll be taking a break after this one

Firstly so sorry for your loss. To anyone saying its just a pet, they never are.

my dogs were (before the baby, my furkids. They were spoilt and fed better than I am. They are still spoilt but are now relegated to "just" dog food most of the time.

On Tuesday, one of them got out when I was taking the rubbish out.

Anyone could tell me its my fault, im a bad owner etc but nothing will make me feel any worse. I had the dog for nearly 9 years, still have her brother. She hasnt been handed in to any local authorities, nor has she been killed on the highway (the highways agency have to scan dogs and notify). I believe that she is in the village but I cant find her. Its horrific to fail a much loved "pet".

"On Monday at 2.08pm my beloved cat took his final journey to Rainbow Bridge. I posted it on his facebook and have now blocked 9 so called "friends" for saying he was only a cat; get another one; Pets die etc. He was not just a cat he was a furry member of the family who just happened to be short, hairy, have four legs and a tail but could still shout "Mum". He was part of my life for 18 years, 6 months and 10 days and in that time I have no idea just how many times he saved my life. Im epileptic (see its out there in public now) and I could not begin to count number of times I have come round on the floor with a paw in my mouth and claws in my tongue. Why the hell cant some people accept that those of us owned but pets need to grieve when they leave us? Suppose i will be blocking more when i get my memorial tattoo .... A paw print on my wrist; just under my thumb seems a fitting reminder to him who had to be obeyed. Rant over; sorry just needed to let it out x

My son died at eight weeks old and some people said "he was only a baby, you can have another one!" so I'm not surprised by the reaction with regards to your cat.

Sounds like a well loved pet. Every thing dies sadly, we love, lose and mourn. Don't let the negativity from others add to your grief.

That is a horrible thing to say to a parent that has lost a baby.

I miscarried and people said at least it wasn't actually alive yet. People can be so cruel and heartless "

People are sick!! I grew up with cats I have 5 at the moment!! 3 girls and 2 boys and they are my babies!! I've broken my heart over the years with the ones I've lost! The tattoo sounds lovely and well done on blocking friends!!

Some people just don't understand & I pity them.....

My pets are a huge part of family life, my old man tobe passed over at Easter & I still expect to trip over my black shadow, my middle son is autistic & has an amazing relationship with our dog & the cat is just a bit odd in the head..... Yet all of my family & friends know that these furry members of the family are just as special as the ones who dont have fur

I have had cats and dogs for as long as I can remember.Although it is sad when they die I never feel the same sadness for a cat as I do for a dog.

Dogs are more like a part of the family and hard to replace,but when a cat dies its easy for me to just get another one .

yeh, i know what you mean.

I've had both cats and dogs over the years.

I remember phoning into work the morning after my collie had died in a eta. I was beside myself and i couldn't make it into the office as i had been crying, sick all night.

When i returned to work the next day, my boss shrugged and was like 'well i dont like animals'

I lost my beloved pussy - that was her name - after she was poisoned. It was a terrible experience, though she only suffered for a couple of hours, and the end was fairly sudden, just after she bit the vet's nurse.

People don't understand the emotional attachment that we can have with our loved ones. I was in shock for days, it was a dreadful time.

So sorry that you've had comments sent that have been insulting, that's clearly absolutely disgusting.

I love all my pets...currently 5 cats....and have lost many dearly beloved friends both feline and canine over the years. Its two years since I lost my dear wee black Scotty dog. Just last week I saw one that reminded me of him so much the longing brought on tears.

It's a sad fact that those who don't understand the impact our furry faces have on us can hurt with their insensitivity...but lots of us DO know your pain.....

My darling cat was with me for ten years.

She was my best friend through my divorce, 4 house moves, one awful relationship after my divorce and bringing up my kids mostly on my own.

For eight of those ten years she slept on her side of my bed every night without fail.

I lost her last summer to a road accident and I was devastated, I cried non stop for 3 days in and out of work.

I'm sorry for your loss I understand what it's like
