its not "going wrong" its been wrong for a very long time, its just more acceptable to talk about it now, and its being dealt with.

Not so long ago, single unwed mothers were locked up in catholic homes, anyone with mental illness was locked up in the "mad house" or sanatorium and poor people were locked away for fear of offending folks.

Its part of society moving forward and protecting its weak and vulnerable.

There was a certain inevitability about the verdict after some of the things he admitted to.

I hope all those that have been abused feel that there is some justice now.

It's a pity it took so long and that these particular perpetrators were enabled to keep meeting and abusing people because of the trust we had in them just because we enjoyed them as they entered our homes through the telly box.

Sounds like the charges were conclusive and he gets what he deserves or I hope he does.

It does make me snarl a little as I remember someone saying it should be Jim Davidson going to court and it couldn't be true of Rolf. I guess it is that sort of bigotry and inability to be objective of so many that helped him get away with it for so long.

I don't know the circumstances or how much she knew but I wouldn't paint her as a victim unless I knew for sure she was unaware of what went on. There are a lot of guilty people in cases like these, the ones that turn a blind eye.

"another victim is his wife .. poor woman"

the main victim was a close friend of his daughter who he groomed over many years, there is a part of me that wonders in that circumstance if his wife had any suspicion perhaps..

or as with these type's he duped all and sundry..

she's not a victim in the sense of what's happened but she no doubt has been effected and will continue to be so..

any partner that 'stands by' such people when guilt has been proven is beyond contempt..

Found guilty by a jury, by our legal system. Would it have happened without yewtree and the ongoing unearthing of crimes past and celebrities who thought they were above the law, that people are having to live with now. I'm glad that the victims have had a voice, that they might feel some closure for something that will probably blight the rest of their lives. If it saves one innocent person from ever having to suffer at the hands of a molester, then at least something good comes out of this. As for Harris, having been convicted, I won't give a moments thought to the time and experiences he is going to have during his expected incarceration, he's not worth it.

Agreed he is guilty and is going to prison and will probably spend what's left of the rest of his life there. But what bothers me now is that they will now spend £1000's and £1000's of tax money on trying him for other offences that have now come up with what result? Extended sentence ? Surely once he is sentenced and in prison they should be drawing a line under it? I mean there will be no more that they can do to him is there ?

I think this old story sums it up a little.

A young girl was trudging along a mountain path, trying to reach her grandmother's house.

It was bitter cold, and the wind cut like a knife.

When she was within sight of her destination, she heard a rustle at her feet.

Looking down, she saw a snake.

Before she could move, the snake spoke to her.

He said, "I am about to die.

It is too cold for me up here, and I am freezing.

There is no food in these mountains, and I am starving.

Please put me under your coat and take me with you."

"No," replied the girl. "I know your kind. You are a rattlesnake.

If I pick you up, you will bite me, and your bite is poisonous."

"No, no," said the snake. "If you help me, you will be my best friend.

I will treat you differently."

The little girl sat down on a rock for a moment to rest and think things over.

She looked at the beautiful markings on the snake and had to admit that it was the most beautiful snake she had ever seen.

Suddenly, she said, "I believe you. I will save you.

All living things deserve to be treated with kindness."

The little girl reached over, put the snake gently under her coat and proceeded toward her grandmother's house.

Within a moment, she felt a sharp pain in her side.

The snake had bitten her.

"How could you do this to me?" she cried.

"You promised that you would not bite me, and I trusted you!"

"You knew what I was when you picked me up," hissed the snake as he slithered away.

will be much closer to 4 and a bit... they always keep the "sex offenders" seperate, and with someone as high profile, I am sure it wont be open jail, but will be a lower grade nick...

andy coulson on the other hand..... oh dear

It's such a shame to hear about Rolf Harris being found guilty of sexual offences.

He touched so many people in so many different ways.

How is it a shame? The dirty perv got away with abuse for years. 5 years 9 months! It's a joke he should be given more.

So what he was a good entertainer and loads of people liked him. If you dont want to go to prison don't abuse people. Don't feel sorry for him he has got a lot less than he deserves.

Not sure about this one, don't think any sentence will be as bad as being found guilty on camera, so the prison is irrelevant.

Bit unhappy about the key witness who had an ongoing affair with him until she was 28 and only came forward after he ended it, doesn't quite sit right with me that someone in their late 20's has had an affair going on 10 - 15 years then realises it was abuse. But there are international aspects to this case, will be interesting to see if Australia puts in for an extradition to face charges there too.

"looks bang to rights.."

I am not disputing the verdict, the court will have access to a lot of evidence that doesn't make the news.

Rolf Harris the character that he has played most of his life has received a death sentence, so as I said it really won't make much difference what or where the sentence on Rolf Harris the man is served, but will make a difference if he is subsequently charged with more offences in his homeland.

cant see that the Australian DPP or equivalent would consider it seriously tbh..

it does sort of beg the question that whenever a person currently serving a sentence for a crime such as this is put on trial again as with Stuart Hall and Gary Glitter whether they ever get a 'fair hearing' ..

It's already been referred to whoever it gets referred to for being too lenient, like Stuart Hall was

Central

If more of us complain about it being too lenient then his sentence could be extended. Director of public prosecutions office.

He's facing more charges , so there is still chance for it to be extended
