Charity Events

Horsham

Do you think there are too many charity events taking place now. I recently did the London to Brighton bike ride, part of the ride was to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation. When I was asking people to sponsor me a lot of people complained about the amount of events that people wanted money for, do you find this is happening a lot or just quite a few events happening all together.

I don't think that there are to many charity events.There is a lot of them and they seem to be more popular now than ever.The ones I object to are where people are trying to get sponsorship so they can go on some trek or bike ride somewhere nice and warm.

There are loads,ive stopped sponsering race for life because so many people I know do it,Im not mean but I can't sponser everyone even if its for a fantastic cause,I donate in other ways

I think you can get charity fatigue. With facebook and so on, it's easier for people to look for sponsors, whereas before you never had 200 or so peeps pop round for a chat and a donation.

This year I never went round people, i put up a fund raising page and let people donate.

I know what you mean, there is a ride from London to Paris. You are expected to pay £750 or £1500 sponsorship to be anle to join the ride.

Not sure if there are too many but we are asked by about three people a week to sponsor them for some event. I tend to choose the ones I want to support and donate via their Just Giving page, that way there's not the awkwardness of turning someone down.

Support your local charity's then you know it's not wasted on big national campaigns. Hospices for instant are only part covered by nhs the rest they have to raise money for to offer free hospice care

I think you will get a load during the good weather months, particularly for outdoor pursuits, so atm we may appear to have more. As funding is cut for charities it will also force them to be more active in pursuit of our money. Anything that keeps chuggers away from me on the street is ok. Just done a tattooathon, where people got tattoos, as well as raised cash, so winwin. Im selective on charitable donations, and terminal cancer and other such charities do it for me.

Whilst i do a fair bit for charity, time and moneywise, i'm getting sick of being approached on the street to set up direct debits.

They're pleasant about it but it's not an appealing way to donate, in my opinion.

No I agree with you there, I donate my way and to whom I prefer. Sad that they have to raise money for certain charities anyway..Cancer charities and military charities shouldn't have to raise funds. Other charities too, but those are the ones I give to a lot.

I do think fund raising fatigue is a real thing! It's something I'm really.conscious of now I've started entering more races etc

I've yet to decide who i am running for in my first 10k in september but already I feel bad asking for sponsorship as o dis sport relief in march!

I was supposed to get sponsored for a 5k walk in may buy ended up just giving what I'd spend on a night out so as not to bombard mu friends and family all the time.

I think there is a case of it. The number of people at work who are doing runs is amazing. That's why I went for boxing, as it's different.

Got my first black eye last night as well, so people will see the training I'm doing.

Remember the no make up selfie all the girls went nuts on? It clashed with Children in need or sport relief, I cant remember which one.

My point being the major events that attract the most donations could be planned better.

But that wasn't asking others to sponsor you, that was self donation if you like. You took the pic, posted it then donated to the charity.

In a word NO not if it helps raise money for smaller deserving charities.
