"Ahh.. now, inform the dvla that you were in fact with another driver at the time and you arent too sure which one of you was driving at the time as you were taking turns doing the driving. If they can play the technical game, so can you. " This loophole has now been closed unfortunately, my hubby tried that one and he never got away with it....

" there are no grounds for appeal. I know the law now, lol. Luckily I have a clean license up to now, so 3 points isnt a big deal to me, but my van is smaller than a Landrover, or most of the big 4wds. Apparently its because my van was registered as a goods vehicle, and goods vehicles are subject to different laws.

Maximum speed for class of vehicle, ie small van 50mph Result £60 fine and 3 points I know ignorance of the law is no defence, but I didn't know my van was subject to different rules to cars. I meant that our local cops tell the paper where they are going to be with their speed cams and radars, so if anyone is caught (especially a local) then they are shown no mercy as they should know better. I wonder if the same would apply to Joe Bloggs ... ? or is it another classic case of one rule for us and one for them ?" In 1986 when my mother went into labour with my brother my father was the only one who drove so he bundled us all into his saab, nobody was seatbelted in, not even me who was 6 at the time. Father then drove fast and in the wrong lane into the town to drop me off at my grans, then back to the hospital (brother was 6 weeks early which was a big deal at the time) got stopped going thru a red light - it was 2am NOTHING on the roads. Copper looked in car saw my mother screaming and huffing and puffing said look mate I could give you a ticket but you go enough problems follow me. Blue light on escort to hospital, no fine nothing ever happened. So sometimes police do bend the rules when they want. Another time my father was driving a 2CV6 (upturned bathtub with the sardine tin roof that opened by rolling it up) anyway a road just outside Dunfermline you could speed very easily without meaning to - been fixed now tho lol On the way home my father spotted the copper with the radar gun looked down and said ohh crap ticket time pulled in asked what his speed was the copper laughed and said forget it sir no one will believe me if I said I ticketed a 2CV6!! Week before my mother got a ticket for doing 8 miles over on the same road she drove a mini metro!!! Shona x x x

"It’s interesting that by percentage the emergency services have the highest accident rate of any other type of road user. Now while as an individual you might want that police car, ambulance, or fire tender at your house as quickly as possible is it reasonable for someone else to be killed or injured in the process? While we are all being told that speed kills the officials ought to practice what the preach! " Yes that is true but the driving public have to be reasonable and considerate to let the emergency services pass by without any collisions and for them to reach the incident safely and quickly. I have seen drivers who are blind to the fact a vehicle is behind them with the sirens and lights going and fail to turn in to let them past. How on earth can they not see or hear it

How on earth can they not see or hear it " I’ve seen plenty of that sort of behaviour myself, fact is your average domestic driver is totally complacent and somewhat ignorant to the responsibility that they take on when taking the controls of a vehicle . Most have more than enough difficulty with what’s happening ahead of them and don’t think to look at what is happening behind. But just look at the likes of ‘Police Camera Action’ there was one classic I watched whereby cops in a car became suspicious of two lads on a motorbike and so pursued them. The lads made a run for it obviously because of being ‘chased’ so now there were TWO vehicles speeding up to 70 80 MPH through busy shopping areas, it was a miracle no one was actually killed and for what? The bike had no road tax or something like that! The same rules should apply… the driver behind the wheel should not be allowed to make such decisions as to put so much at risk for so little. And as you point out people don’t take that much notice of the blues and two’s.

" Who has heard of pay and display in a Morrisons car park!" Good comment. I use three at different times and places and have never seen such thing. Never thought of it either. Maybe due to competition with other local stores. Write to Head Office and point this fcat out, with a few "facts" of your own relating to the "circumstances" and as to how badly you've been done to. Gotta be worth a letter or e-mail.

The land that the car park occupies is owned my the Town Council or the County Council, not sure which, but you have to pay to shop, however if you can be arsed, you take your ticket to Morrisons instore customer service and they rfund the money ! but who can be arsed to do that ? ASDA car parks are run by T.C.C. and they can issue civil fines for parking in a disabled bay without displaying a badge ...... Whether it would wash in a court of law - who knows ?

I was parked in a supermarket car park and it was run by one of those private companies. Now since i was using my company vehicle should i just pay up or should i ignore it. I have heard that if you ignore it they will give up on you eventually but it says on the back of the ticket if i don't pay it they will contact the DVLA for the registered details at a £40 admin charge which will be passed on to me!. Should these crooks be allowed to do that? Sound like robbing bastards to me! Who has heard of pay and display in a Morrisons car park! Yup ! our Morrisons car park is a pay and display. Whether it would wash in a court of law - who knows ?" Certainly would provided that there were signs on display, which there usually are in places like ASDA. PS i've never once seen an ALDI or Lidl where you are required to pay.

I don't know if that is the case with the store i was in, maybe it applies to all Morrisons car parks and also i did spend more than £5.00. I was that pissed off i went off in a huff and carried on with my journey. I was on route to my holiday destination and just wanted to get there and have a few drams. It did put a dampener on the start of it but all the family who were there with me on holiday all chipped in for the fine which was very kind. I will pay it on the day of expiry just to keep them waiting.

" Who has heard of pay and display in a Morrisons car park! Good comment. I use three at different times and places and have never seen such thing. Never thought of it either. Maybe due to competition with other local stores. Write to Head Office and point this fcat out, with a few "facts" of your own relating to the "circumstances" and as to how badly you've been done to. Gotta be worth a letter or e-mail." In the car parks that charge there are signs everywhere telling you, and machines for you to pay with......I can't see writing a letter would help any cause. The reason the one where we have shopped has charges is because a market is close by to it, so people not using their shop use their car parks....but if you spend a fiver in the store, they give you a refund of your ticket.

The supermarket parking in my area are all free and i have never known of any that do charge. Since i went to Morrisons in Inverness which is 200 miles away from me my first instinct was to park up and shop like i normally do. It wasn't till i got the ticket when i noticed the parking meters. The last thing on my mind was a ticket, it was more getting the alcohol and bbq food etc etc for my holiday. From memory there wasn't any display on entering the car park but if any Invernessians can confirm this then i must had missed it.

A bus lane crosses the end of our avenue and he indicated to turn into the avenue and pulled into the bus lane 2 car lengths before he should have done! When i see my mate with his uniform on i call him a prick but when he's dressed normally he's a good mate. Just as well he has a sense of humour unlike some when you crack a few jokes with them. A few months back i was standing outside a pub in town. Two coppers were coming along and as they walked past one said to the other 'watch that big cunt with the white shirt on'. Now he must had been wanting a reaction as i had a white shirt on but he wasn't getting it from me. Now since i dislike coppers I put a complaint into the chief cuntastable but i got a reply saying his officers would never say things like that! As if i would make it up and waste my time to complain, something which i wouldnt normally do. The police look after each other.

I nearly got caught out at the one I was using the first time I went there after they introduced charges and it was only because they were not handing out tickets for the first two weeks that I didn't get caught out, as although the signs are there for all to see, when you are not expecting them you don't look.

"Blimey.... policing must be on its knees down your neck of the woods.... would of thought they would of just given you a warning really and then issue a fine your doing wrong the next time.... Um... might be time to get a new copy of the Highway Code me thinks? Who's to say the PC Plod is totally correct... I'd seek some advise really... might have grounds to appeal? " Don`t laugh at this one! I drive a tractor for a living. Tractors are limited to 20 mph (apart from exotic bits of kit like JCB Fastracks)In the days before camera vans, a farm entrance a few hundred yards from my depot used to be a favourite place for Plod to get with the hand held camera. On two seperate occasions, the same Plod man put the radar gun on me coming out of the same depot towards him! He never got me as the fekkin tractor I was driving at the time still hadn`t reached top gear by the time I`d reached him! And yes, I did check that I was the one he trying to clock! I reckon most people would think I deserve a medal for exceeding the 20 mph speed limit with a tractor!

The OP's experience will become more widespread now that Scamera vans and speed cameras can distinguish what type of vehicle has just passed them. With number plate recognition they can tell straight away what vehicle class and therefore what speed you should be doing. I bet they are rubbing their greedy little paws in anticiaption.

"And then you have the case on the radio on Friday of the copper who was up in court for doing 60 in a 30 zone (not in his cop car) Apparantly his kid was taken very ill and he was rushing to get home. The other copper gave him a ticket and he appeared court. However the court decided not to punish him on the grounds of 'special circumstances' and further commented that the other copper had impeded the guys progress and instead of issuing a ticket, should have activated his blue lights and effecively given him an escort to his detination. I wonder if the same would apply to Joe Bloggs ... ? or is it another classic case of one rule for us and one for them ?" back in 1980 when my son was about to be born, my wife was transferred from one hospital to another 50 miles away, I could have travelled with her in the ambulance, but would have meant an expensive return trip, so hopped in my car and followed behind , on the trip we were doing 80mph most of the time, and passed through a village (30 zone) i followed the ambulance @ 60mph ( blues and twos going) on leaving the village plod was parked with a speed gun, i was clocked at 63 mph. i was pulled over explained the situation, and was escorted to the hospital, where the officer's checked that my wife was indeed there and had arrived by said ambulance, i was issued a caution and reminded that although i had been let off i would be not so lucky next time as the caution went on record and would show up if an enquiry was made by another officer within 3 months. so you see there are times when an officer can use his own judgement and issue a warning rather than a fine

"Yes that is the case. On a motorway its 60mph for a van and 50mph on a dual carriageway. My mates a traffic cop and he told me that. Didn't help when i got done for speeding two years ago as he couldn't get me off with it!. It was not his division so it was out of his hands. Good for when you want info on the wee scumbag who broke into my house recently and also he lets me know when and where the mobile speed vans will be out Good! If I heard of a copper getting 'mates' off the hook i'd have him done!" Ahh, but what if that copper was your mate though? R XX

Lots of ppl dont know the correct speed limits for the vehicles they drive, so while I feel sorry for the OP, in the eyes of the law, ignorance is no excuse matey... " the OP did say allready ignorance wasnt an excuse / he has my sympathy i used to drive class 1 , tankers etc etc etc , and mrs luton used to drive a small van neither of us knew this lower limit for a small van i think it is absolutely outragous that you are not informed / reminded of these limits pertaining to your vehicle when you get your tax disc reminder it is obviously needed by the sheer number of folk on here who didnt know this reduced speed limit existed
