Jay's shaving guide

From many years experience of seeing people trying to shave in gyms etc I'm amazed at how many people don't know how to shave so here is my guide (I have used professional shavers around the world and this from what they do)

Pre-shave

1) Wrap the area to be shaved in a hot towel or sit in a hot bath for 5 minutes - this opens the folicles and softens the bristles to aid cutting

2) Use a good shave soap and massage into the bristles - this softens the bristles and lubricates the blade

Shave

1) use a sharp clean razor, rinse in hot clean water after each stroke

2) first cut should follow grain of the bristles

3) second cut should go across the grain

4) third and final cut should go against the grain

Post-shave

1) Wrap shaved area in pure clean cold water - this closes the pores and prevents dirt getting in

2) Apply moisturising cream to replace lost body oils

3) Apply aftershave to feel crisp, clean and smell nice

Yes this may take a bit more time but it will be the closest smoothest shave you will get and you will feel great

Over and out

Jay

Think Il stick to my electric razor, I've extremely sensitive skin and a wet shave would break me out in a shaving rash

I don't think you should shave against the grain, I don't think professional barbers do that.

If you followed them steps and used either a d.e safty razor or a straight razor you wouldn't get irritation it's electric and cartridge razors like mac 3 and so on that cause the irritation try it you'd be amazed!

If your a beginner or really sensitive to start with best not to go against but after a couple months of practice with the right kind of razor it's fine

Shaving against the grain, gives u a smooth look, and looks as though youv never had hair there. Not everyone suits that look. I personally think most men shave too often, and it looks rubbish.

use two razors .. one soaking while you use the other one .. its quicker and the shave is better

I've converted to using a straight razor. Best thing I ever did. Took a bit of practice and I did end up looking like Freddy Krueger some times but well worth it.

Razors should be rinsed in cold water, it keeps the blade sharper. Try it, you'll be surprised how much better it works!
