Healing bruises

Yesterday a horse spooked as I was leading him, kicked me right in the stomach/hip and as a result I am purple! Due to the severity of the bruise I can imagine it is going to take a while to go back to normal.

I have a party in 3 weeks and I want it to look ok by then if possible, is there any way to speed it up?

Applied ice for 15 minutes after the accident.

One of my friends hit her face on a granite worktop, took two weeks for the black eyes to go away. a bit different i know but was quite severe still. good luck

Arnica is great for healing bruises. You can get it in cream or tablet form. hope it's better soon.

Arnica. It will make it all seem worse but that's because it will bring the bruise out more quickly.

just to be clear. You only applied the ice once? for 15 minutes?

You need to use it at least 3x in the hour as often as you can. It will fade to yellow within a week, with luck

Ice for the first three days with anti-inflammatories like ibuprufen, then alternate hot and cold.

I second arnica cream or tabs. Get it in health food shops and chemists.

I'm glad I'm fat as think it's prevented further damage.

Yes. And I believe you can take the tabs as well as use the cream.

Witch hazel and drinking Earl Grey. I may have made half of this up, but you can figure it out

Possibly. If not, try Holland & Barrett.

You're lucky not to break anything. I only ever got kicked properly once in a lifetime of horses, but I took both barrels in the forearm from a 600kg mare and I still have the armful of pins and plates to prove it!

I thought he had broken my hip at first but think that was shock. My only proper kick too, had a few ponies catch me on the legs but nothing too bad.

We still go back for more though

I know that we all want to look our best but you'll have an ice breaker to talk about , anyone who has an issue with it is a shallow superficial t*@t - maybe different as I'm a bloke and sadly society still judges differently but I have some manly scars to show off

I concur with taking arnica. If the skin is broken you can't use the cream.

I just like to look my best, most guys wouldn't be bothered, just concerned more than anything.

Smacked myself clean in the eyeball 2 hours before a meet once

Thanks to everyone who mentioned Arnica cream, amazing stuff, made my bruise itch a bit but it's now rapidly disappearing.

My meet on Sunday was a bit concerned that he would hurt me but wasn't turned off by it. Just the bruised hip bone that I've got to contend with x

Some good advice. Also comfrey is great for skin, body and muscle problems including bruises. It is a wild plant, can be applied externally and ingested. External poultice would work well to expedite things.
