"Is it just me that finds the reaction to these sort of incidents as a little strange, as far as the desired punishment goes? Many are calling for a longer ban than a player would get for ending another player's career with a dangerous tackle. Being bitten is unpleasant in the extreme to be sure, and a man doing it on three separate occasions does invite much deserved opprobrium - but even so, the calls for a lifetime ban seem a little odd to me." I know what you mean but as with a bad tackle you can't prove intent.... biting is quite straight forward!

" I know what you mean but as with a bad tackle you can't prove intent.... biting is quite straight forward! " Intent is something of an issue, but sometimes I think it's fairly clear-cut. I seem to remember Ben Thatcher getting an 8 game ban for a forearm smash on Mendes so severe that he was knocked unconscious and went on to suffer a seizure in the back of an ambulance. For me, that is worthy of greater punishment than a bite (even 3 bites).

Always a risk for both players involved in a tackle, but going out your way to Bite another player or anyone in fact is totally different and deserve the most punishment the powers to be can give him

I think liverpool will be kicking themselves for a bit for not selling... because I think he will get a 6 months to 1 year ban....... obviously the 7 games he got at ajax... and the 10 games he got at liverpool are not having the desired effect......" yes Fabio, if only he had said to the manager 'at the world cup I will bite someone again' then they could have sold him eh..

"I'm sure FIFA have the power to ban someone from all forms of football, they are after all the world governing body of football." In fact, this may be correct. Luisao was banned worldwide, after the Portuguese equivalent of the FA issued a domestic ban. But that was for an assault on a match official.

He is denying it and I doubt FIFA will do anything, he will score more goals in this world cup, get his dream move to Barcelona and will bank £300k a week for a few more years. " My understanding of the rules is that FIFA cannot ban him from playing for Liverpool, and the FA cannot do so because he has done this in a game outside of their jurisdiction." FIFA actually can..... they can retrospecively ban someone for up to 24 games... or 2 years, whichever is the longer... also they have to make any ban a worldwide one if they wish... they have normally only done it for failed drugs tests so far... but acts where refs have been abused have also had this ban attached.... I think the clamour is going to be to ban him... question is how long since he will likely appeal and take it to the CAS.... but FIFA are going to say... 3rd time for the same offence

You Scottish or Scouse? Lol Nothing to do with Uraguay beating England or Suarez scoring two good goals to be the difference in the game. The simple fact that he's a dirty, cheating, c*** and more so than most. But this is the 3rd time I'm aware of. I'd say 3 times biting players on the pitch is worse than Cantonas crime and he received an 8 month ban. Agreed that lifetime is a bit OTT, but I think a 6 month worldwide ban, with immediate effect, would suffice.

I can see the suarez thing playing out something like this.... Fifa decide to ban Suarez from all football worldwide till July 1st 2015..... Suarez then appeals and takes it to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) Both sides agree to Accept a lower punishment... ban until Jan 1st 2015....... I honestly don't think Suarez plays again in 2014.....

"Football has gone to the dogs in past 20years or so , I would love see Suarez try take nibble on the likes of Keanu, or cantona Is that the same Keane that ended a players career with a bad tackle. Also admitting he wanted to hurt the player? Which is far worse in my book. exactly.had keanes tackle on haaland in mind wen i said far worse in the game but unlike suarez still gotta love keano" Haaland was a **** anyway, but he messed with the wrong 'un when he messed with Keano. Although I don't like Keane now.... Whereas Suarez is just a despicable t*** full stop.

I think international exile would really hit Suarez hard. Considering it was on football's biggest stage and his third offence, I think this plus a season long ban from all club level competitions. With all that time away from football, he'll have more than enough time for therapy as he desperately needs it.

"The calls for lifetime bans are ott imo id rather be bitten than have my leg broke by deliberate tackle or even racially abused, and how often do we see that on a pitch would the reaction to the bite be the same if england beat uraguay? You Scottish or Scouse? Lol Nothing to do with Uraguay beating England or Suarez scoring two good goals to be the difference in the game. The simple fact that he's a dirty, cheating, c*** and more so than most. But this is the 3rd time I'm aware of. I'd say 3 times biting players on the pitch is worse than Cantonas crime and he received an 8 month ban. Agreed that lifetime is a bit OTT, but I think a 6 month worldwide ban, with immediate effect, would suffice. " and wtf has being Scottish got to do with it ? there is just as much a feeling among us Scots that he should be banned as there is among English or any other nationality for that matter.

"The problem isn't Suarez, it's football! Over the last 20 years we have seen so many incidents of these spoilt brats getting away with it. We have seen so many incidents of severe violence on a pitch, if you or I but someone in work, kicked them in the head or broke someone's leg and ruine their career, would we still have a job? We have seen footballers fail drugs tests and be defended, other have gone to jail for violence and some for drugs, they are still seen as assests to the club. One footballer was caught having an affair with his brothers wife, we all looked the other way, there are no consequences for these guys.As football fans we look at these issues with the colours of our club in mind. I'm a Liverpool season ticket holder and I'm sickened by this man, again! Until football takes a stance, there will be plenty more threads like this. " Would you want Liverpool to sack suarez?

"I'm not sure what all the fuss is about the guy is hardly going to be scarred for life nor is he even injured! Suarez is a high quality unpredictable player who is worth the admission fee alone. People love unpredictability so this bite just makes him even more marketable. Don't ban him, embrace his brilliance! It's hardly Tyson v Holyfield!"

"Blokes a disgrace to the game." Very much in the same vein as Roy Keene and Eric Cantona.

It's arguably the world's most popular sport and has more than enough stars who don't go round biting other players.
