Think you'ed find if that happened the police would close the road and the end result would be the same

Really? Did you think this thread through? There was a fatality just 2 weeks ago with a motorbike and rider and he got on the grounds by trespassing!

of course i thought the thread through, the was to let you know it was tongue in cheek, and also, if they did break down in the "up" position, how would we know they were broke ??

My apologies but I do not equate the with a tongue in cheek post, the incident I spoke about is still under investigation but so far there was nothing wrong with the automated barriers, but I do apologise for mistaking your post incorrectly!

I have to close my eyes when driving across level crossings. Works for me but not great for passengers apparently

The default position for a level crossing is down. If there is a power failure or a technical failure they come down.

the reason for that is the railway in this country has to be fenced off from the public for there safety except on low speed light use lines hence the barriers at level crossing to block the road .having had the misfortune to attend the ufton nervet collision i treat level crossings with the respect they deserve

Titz Towers, North Notts

The problem is the length of time it takes to find a route around the blockage when they do break. Luckily one near me is on a wide road, so there is plenty of turning room
