Anyone ever got an overnight sleeper train?

Thinking of getting one tonight from London to Glasgow

yes... but it is something i would say absolutely book a sleeper bed... yes the seats do recline a bit more than they do on the day trains, but they are not really designed to sleep in all night...

ring scotrail and see if they have any berths left.... if you are really lucky they may have a twin left to yourself

With a cracking view

If you're over 6ft, and like sleeping in a 6ft cabin bed, go for it .....

If, like me, you can't stand cabin beds, think again !! lol

Done it, a couple of times ...

OK if train travelling slowly

Glasgow

If you go for the seat option, take some drink. Most folks do and it becomes a very jovial way to pass the time till sleep overtakes.

It has totally the wrong name. It should be renamed the shake rattle and roller!!!

I use it a lot and if you get a berth then try to make sure it's in the middle of the carriage as berths above the bogies tend to be noisier and more uncomfortable.

its not... trust me.. lol..

the staff are normally super nice though, just because they have not really much to do in the middle of the night....lol

I would just see what is the earliest you can board the train (normally about 2hrs is before it sets off...) have a wee drink on the train (take ya own...) and they just wander off to bed.. and find out the latest you can get off......

"Paris to barcalona last year and it was great"

but thats a proper sleeper like a bloody hotel... they wouldn't have one of them in the uk!!!!

I do advise people (football fans) who ever want to go to barcelona, or to madrid to absolutely do it on the way out, eurostar london to paris to connect with the sleepers... and just fly coming back....

it is specatularly nice!!!

Wellingborough

Been on both the Fort William and Inverness sleeper in the past.

Great way to travel to the Highlands.

Bloody expensive now though.

When I use it, I need to have a few vodka's before I get on just to make sure I get to sleep on the damn thing

The visions I have in my head of what a sleeper train is like is probably nothing like the reality

"And cape town to j;burg , ive been around abit soz"

I've done Bulawayo to Jo'burg and Jo'burg to Durban on the sleeper back in the day. I also did Bulawayo to Vic Falls on an over night steam drawn sleeper. That was 3rd class as a teenager and it was quite an experience.

The better bet is getting the fast train the sleeper one is noisy and you don't get a lot of sleep.

Central

Many times. If youre very lucky you leave refreshed. Dont expect everyone will be in the mood for peace quiet and sleep though. If you are comfortable in airline seats overnight then you may find the seat service good - but bunk or seat is not quite a 5 star hotel experience. Fab should commandeer a carriage for a shagathon journey.

Done, Nairobi to Mombasa, was full of irritating gap year students. Bet it was lovely 50 years ago, when we went it was a little threadbare.

I don't mind long travel as long as I can plug in my phone/iPad

Cramped on a bus could be an issue.

The train was ok, but hardly first class, had to pay for food and drink, no plug sockets in compartment, was noisy from the train suspension.

Wouldn't say I arrived refreshed but I arrived!
