I've just been filling out some forms online and they all ask for the user to retype the letters/numbers in the box.

One of them I had to do three times with a lot of squinting before I got it right!

I don't have any reading or word or number recognition issues and I was just curious what those codes are like for those who do.

I imagine almost bloomin impossible.

Awareness of so many conditions of people is important. How many people can you think of from your school days that were branded a little odd or slow or alternative ? Many were battling conditions that if we'd known about we may have been more supportive of.

I digress...how can online forms be adapted though ?

I understand that they want to filter out spamming bots but they are all over, even occasionally on here!

What do people do who read letters reversed and who's brain rearranges number order?

Titz Towers, North Notts

I did hear something on the wireless about how companies could seek sponsorship through these types of things. Rather than type in the hidden number, you'd see, for sake of argument the logo of Random House and be asked what business are they involved in

Need to know basis

Someone I know is dyslexic and has a hearing aid. He'd only complete these forms when someone was there to help.

I hated school with a vengeance.

SEN is a matter of great interest to me as I am severly dyslexic too & my children also have it.

If you know of a child with any kind of difficulty in learning I strongly recommend that you look at the IPSEA website. Due to present day financial constraints in education unfortunately children are still not receiving the help that they are legally entitled to if their parents do not fight for them.

Be aware too that when LEA assess children for dyslexia for example they are more frequently being tested by a 'specialist teacher' who is actually NOT qualified to assess using the full toolbox ofaassessments unlike a educational psychologist. That is the crux of the matter!!!

I think with some there's an option to change it to a different format

There are some captchas that ask you to finish a jigsaw or click on pictures of sleeping cats.

I'm dyslexic and those captchas are a nightmare

Ones that have a noisy background or a line through them are the hardest for me to identify. Also because I reverse certain letters and numbers it can take quite a while to get one I can get right

If I can enlarge the box it makes it slightly easier The worse are the sites that only give a couple of attempts before locking you out.

Maybe you just need glasses. If you need to squint to see writing and haven't have problems before with word recognition then it's more then likely.

I already wear glasses and my prescription is up to date.

Its the distortion they use, it is worse on some of them then on others. Which is what made me wonder; if I'm struggling with distorted text, how difficult is it for people who struggle with plain text?

Well I'm dyslexic and I don't really have much trouble although I have seen one where is so distorted it can look like two different letters. If you distort anything enough it will become unrecognisable.

Those codes are a nightmare for anyone let alone someone with dyslexia etc...

Ticketmaster seem to be the worst. I understand why they need them though. Ticketmaster get hammered by touts and they use 'bots' (not the spanking kind) which automatically access the site and buy up all those One Direction tickets before anyone else. Phew!!!!!

Any kind of thing related to time management, numbers, social arrangements have to be at least double if not triple checked or I am screwed but not in the sense that I want to be.

I don't have any problems reading - but sometimes those captcha letters are hard to decypher...
