Series or Season?

Titz Towers, North Notts

When I was a kid, it was always 'a new series of such and such is coming on' but now I keep hearing people refer to it as a new season.

What do you call it?

It depends....

Series to me consist of about 6 episodes.

A season is usually 13 episodes (give or take) which is the length of a season.

To me it would depend upon the how many episodes.

What about the ones that go for 20-26 weeks? Would that be two seasons or just one long series?

That was the normal season length in the states. It's only recently with shows like sons of anarchy and true blood that seasons were shorter.

We call it 'series' if a UK production.....but 'Season' if an overseas one....(unless is it a south-east Asian show....for which we use a high pitched cat like noise to denote whatever 'series/season' it happens to be.)

With Only Fools and horses, there was series 1, series 2 and so on. There were no seasons with Only fools and horses.

Exactly, which is why I think season is a better word.
