Up North :-)

Well it happens but it would be in appalling taste to show it after the recent events.

Its obviously a sign of respect.

I doubt any close relatives of the victims are watching T.V at the moment though. R

The cynic in me says its a nice advertising plug for them isn't it?

Can't see what difference at all this makes - even as a sign of respect its a bit flimsy. Could have done that a dozen other ways.

But maybe I'm too cynical..

A true mark of respect would be that no soap shows serious vioence ever again.

Are the writers/producers, even actors in such scenes partly responsible for eevents on the real street? May be not this particular one, but it must have influenced others.

Believe it or not the history of man is violent!

I'm sure when Cain killed Able it wasn't after an episode of Law and Order: Criminal Intent!

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else

How does this work then? They won't be able to show ths shooting episode for weeks, if not months, which means any scenes/episodes consequential to the shooting will also need editing out.

Which means they urgently need to reshoot and come up with a plotline that sets up the shooting.

Must be a nightmare for the production staff...

I remember Casualty pulling an episode about an aircrash some years ago after a real air disaster.

However, thinking about it, I'm sure there are many more viewers every week who have suffered car accidents and other tragedies regularly portrayed in the series than ever was directly affected by that crash.

It is the right thing to do, but it does make you think.

Very strange that the news didn't stop stories of folks being shot and blown up in Afganistan, including a mum who didn't think her son had enough training as a bomb disposal officer (6 weeks), but you cannot show fiction as it might upset folks. Strange world.

A very valid point. I also agree with WetHot69 and Sassy.

The programmers must be really miffed at having their scheduling altered. NOT for one moment do I believe it is a sign of respect. It's just protocol - a way of business life - a necessity.

In postponing they re direct the shit from hitting their fan to someone elses. They avoid litigation and monetary loss and as everyone with a modicom of brain or experience knows - money is all that matters in this society.

A shred of irony for me is that this thread - whilst in part condemning violence in programmes - has been contributed to by viewers who have probably watched every episode of Coronation Street without complaint until now. Where are the protestors? Is anyone here a fan of Mary Whitehouse ?

Personally I haven't watched Corrie since Elsie Tanner whacked Ena Sharples with her handbag. I just KNEW it was all going to go downhill and boy was I right!

The writers of Corrie have to be applauded for keeping it real though.

I've sometimes caught it accidentally whilst waiting for another prog and it's so true to life. Just as a murderer attempts to strangle his wife he says. ' I'll show YOU you rotter.' She replies as she hits him with the clay statue won at the bingo. 'Have at you! You varlet! I'm goin' to me mam's fuh tea! Pack your chest and be on the next steam ship up't canal!

No one says Fuck Shit Arse Tit Cunt Twat Whore Bastard or even nipple! whilst feeling life threateningly violent! What's all that about ?

They should SHOW the episode. I'm not going to kill anyone - honest. I won't even see it.

It's a sad reflection that we won't allow programmes containing sex into our homes in the presence of some adults and certainly not in front of children - yet we will allow them to watch the untimely deaths and murders of human beings daily - in progs or in the news.

I do believe that t.v. progs are far more powerful and influential than many seem to realise. Unless the majority make a stand nothing will change. The hypocrisy just continues not with the law ... not with t.v prog makers not with murderers .. with us all.

I turn all ads about car deaths off for good reason. I cannot stomach them .... for good reason. They cause me severe pain ..... for good reason. I don't believe they have no place in the lives of others though.

Corrie should not be so fucking pious. It should be shown. ( apart from the fact that the prog is so mind numbingly boring ....zzzzzz )

Poobah!

The human race has been killing itself long before television, games consoles and hotel murder mystery weekends.

At least with soaps they take the responsibility of showing the suffering it causes, the impact on those left behind and the underlying message of…. the baddy always gets their comeuppance in the end.

i think tv etc has desensitised us a bit towards violence etc but it has also raised awareness of things that do happen to people but in all honesty anyone who believes what the see on tv as gospel and how life is and how to live life is probably a sandwich short of a picnic anyway!

we always try to find answers and reasons to why people do bad things and look for the scapegoat and many times it is tv that gets the blame or video games which as iv said before can be a major influence on children or someone with a poor grasp of reality xx

its strange granny tv has evolved so have humans but i think personally that it must have some effect on children or people with personality disorders or who have somethin underlying in them but i also think that we all make capable decisions but what influences them can come from all different areas how many times have we heard somethin about oh he seen it on tv its to blame but what did we blame it on before we had media? has society really disintegrated that much that tv is our source of morals? one thing that really struck me was that durin the election the amount of people that were up in arms over eastenders being cancelled because of the coalition announcement!

are we slaves to the google box and are we no longer disgusted when somethin happens because we seen it on tv even though its not real its a scary thought and way too deep and intense for me on a thursday!! x
