Cast the first stone...

Had my mam to the hospital today for checkup after her cataract operation and the nurse said she shouldn't have been driving at all for ages as her cataracts were very bad...managed to get out of Mam that the opticians had tried to persuade her not to drive (not that she goes far, but it's the only way she can get out of the flat on her own). Of course, I gave her a telling off then realised I hadn't had my eyes tested since I got them lasered 7 years back...managed to get myself an eye test sorted this aft and one of my eyes is borderline for driving so that's me hoist by my own petard and distance glasses and sunglasses now on order!

Anyone else caught themselves out like this - cost me £120 on tests and glasses - what did it cost you?

Glasses wearer here. Usually take advantage of Specsavers 2 for 1 but I usually spend around £150-£200

I should get mine tested. I rarely drive but I've noticed my eyes get blurred when I'm tired

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

My Mum has AMD (basically she's going blind) and insisted that she was OK to drive. She commented to my sister that the sunset was looking particularly good one night only to be told it was a streetlamp. She doesn't insist that she can drive now.

As for me, I've been driving borderline illegally for years. Now I have specs I can finally read those road signs (Caz will be please to know )

Yea, I got my first pair of driving glasses, spent about £80 at specsavers and promptly left them on a nudist beach!!

Luckily I just phoned up and asked for the second pair for free!

Last eye test I had the optician suggested I needed reading glasses, gave me a prescription for the lenses, as I get to the desk the Lady asked if I d like to purchase them today, she shows me to the frames I thought I was mis reading them as the price was £99.99 plus lenses, I said I d leave it being a yorkshireman I came up with an alternate solution I stopped reading,

have had an ongoing problem with the eyesight piece of my camera, couldn't set it up properly to my prescription because of astigmatism and being outside of Nikon's default range on the diopter - having bugged the local camera store intensely - I finally did masses of research and have found the solution and taught the staff at the local camera shop something none of them new ... I feel so smug and can see

I should get my eyes tested - it's been a few years. They hadn't changed from the last time though and that was a few years before that.
