I hate it when somebody described himself as a "professional man" - it kills my interest straight away.

To me the literal understanding is that they're a gigolo who expects payment - but the reality is that they mistakenly think that's a good enough expression.

If they want to impress that they have presence, manners and education, then they should be able to do so through their written expression - not try to brag about their working status...

But it's so mis-used - I messaged one "professional man" on here who admitted that he was a professional lorry driver - no disrespect from me to lorry drivers at all, but I don't see it as a "profession".

bravo. I wish people would stop this slating of people who make the effort to appear good and respectable. At least they try even if they are ill judged. Reverse snobbery is far worse.

It can largely be ignored imo, as everyones interpretation differs markedly. Most of the users dont even spell it correctly, so they probably dont know what a profession is. It likely means they are selective upon who they meet, but we all are in differing ways. Could also be a giveaway upon snob values, but I think they wouldnt generallly relish a meet upon a deprived council estate
