Near Edinburgh..

know its not about Swinging - so apologies to those that may be offended..

Hubby had a nasty fall down the stairs a few months back and soon after developed a lung infection..

Tablets never helped and he has now has a Chest X-ray.. The x-ray shows a shadow at the top of the Lung..

The Doc said don't panic it could be a number of things !!

While we wait for further scans - The only answer We can find on the internet seems to suggest "Lung-Cancer".

We hope its not that - and that its just a nasty lung infection..

Anyone else had similar worries

Do not self diagnose off the net.

All it succeeds in doing is making you worry even more than you will no doubt already be doing.

sit tight and get a second opinion have you lost weight , short of breath , tired , eating more , coughing up blood , all these things are questions you need to ask , don't waste your time with google

Hubby was worried recently about lung cancer, had terrible chest and upper back pains, thankfully his xray is clear but he drove himself mad googling etc.

If the doc says it could be any number of things you have to accept that, hopefully it won't be your worst fears, it's difficult to think about anything else though I know, hope all is ok xx

I agree, do not self diagnose, especially off the internet! You'll convince yourself you are dying lol

I've an appointment on Monday for bad smear results and I'm going in with a positive view that it will just be a monitoring situation rather than anything worse

sorry to hear about the fall, sounds very painful, hope you're on the mend soon

all in would say is don't self diagnose yourself via google, you'll end up being far more worried than you probably need to be....I did it a few years ago & was convinced I had Hodgkyns Lymphoma when in fact the cyst turned out to be viral.

make an appointment with your GP, see if you can get referred to a specialist.

Has he been having any pains?

I had a shadow on my lung, all sorts of tests. Treatment for pneumonia then they thought it could be fluid on my lungs, something I had swallowed as a child gone down the wrong way, so many different things. MRI showed it was actually a tumour. Had 2/3 of my lung removed. No other treatment, check ups for 5 years and now been discharged, try not to worry to much

I had bad headaches for months, google said I had a brain tumour. It turned out to be pinched muscle in my neck.

I hope he's OK. Cross fingers for you x

yeh similar thing occurred ...told testicular cancer 2 months ago ...testicles removed and chemo ..it has spread and kidney is getting removed on 9 july ..no point sugar coating it

i know its not the best of things to see a shadow in your lungs however jumping the gun before you know what it is isnt the best of things to do

your husband had a fall and got a chest infection the chest infection a chest infection may not have ben cured fully also can change to plurasy mild form also shows as a shadow theres also many other chest ailmamts that you can catch and carry and never know that you had it until they went for an xray scan

sometimes you maybe lucky have an accident and find something early on

just wait until the tests are done and go from there otherwise you could be worrying all for the wrong reasons

A very bad chest infection, can leave a shadow or scar on the lung.

I have done self diagnosis on the net, according to that, I was about to drop down dead, take no notice if it.

A chest infection, can leave a nasty mark on the lung, common too.

I was in a similar situation last year, had a very annoying cough that wouldnt go, went to Docs, sent me for xray, went back to Docs week later for results as you can imagine I was convinced I had lung cancer (I used to be a heavy smoker), Doc said there was a shadow on xray and had to have another, mind now in overdrive planning my wake ect another week + till next xray, nurse said it could be Nipple Bounce and bent a paperclip around my nip and did the xray, I was at my wits end n couldnt wait another week so badgered her into telling me result, it was nipple bounce so there you go, go have another xray and dont forget the paperclip, xxx

A chest X ray is a 2D flat image of a three dimensional structure (your thorax) such that things nowhere near each other can appear close and things behind other things can be hidden

A shadow could or couldn't be anything, the only way to see is to do a 3D scan ususally a CT

I would strongly advise waiting for that scan before getting too worried although that's easily said I know

My dad had one, but it turned out to be related to infection, after I was all worked up. You need to focus on keeping your spirits high and trusting the docs to know what theyre doing. Good luck!

John has had a shadow on his right lung for most of his life due to having pneumonia twice so a lung infection would do this.

Stay clear of the internet horror stories and we hope everything will be ok xx.
