Bad Education

I am frequently amazed at the lack of awareness of some forum posters on what is basic sexual knowledge, these posters are typically in the 20 - 25 age group, and seem to know less than I did when I left school.

Given that I left school in the 70's has there been a retrograde step in school yard peer group sexual education? or is the internet to blame as usual.

These topics come up from time to time and I feel that those posters are really not on the right site, and forget it, but there has been two in the last 24 hours that are quite incredibly naive, so I thought I would put it in a thread and see what others think.

From my experience it's not just young people. Is it worse for older people who should know by now?

I'm 35 soon and remember very little actual sex education from school. We all sniggered over some body part pictures in the biology books but I don't recall the actual teaching of it, I remember them teaching us about flowers and pollination though maybe they thought we could transfer that knowledge over to humans.

We did have a day when we were about 14/15 when a nurse showed us how to use condoms etc, we were all too busy laughing hysterically to pay much attention to the nice lady putting one on a cucumber though.

That all still goes on but students handle it better and it's not a cucumber now. They talk about relationships and homosexuality too

The things I see on here that really concern me the most aren't always from the younger ones though.

Examples being.. I use condoms so I don't need to visit the gum clinic, having sex with pregnant ladies causes no possible danger to the unborn baby etc

I agree...

And may be I will not be popular for saying this but to be honest, I do not rely on the school or other people to teach my kids the basics of anything. It's 'my job' as a parent to teach them how to protect themselves sexually or not and also give them values and principles to live by. Then after that they can take their decisions to follow or not the advice.

have to agree, there is general innocence and then there is pure ignorance.

It has nothing to do with swinging, or 'learning about sex online'. It is more just a stupidity that is only realised once they are in a regrettable situation.

What is annoying, is the thought that they will probably blame it on swinging - such is their ignorance toward sex and their own regard for personal wellbeing.

Blame it on swinging- how did you come to that conclusion?

Perhaps you have hit the answer,

perhaps the parents have abdicated responsibility so much there is no longer a pool of sufficiently educated people to discuss and share opinions / knowledge leaving the classroom as the only source.

you realise is was a general statement not aimed at anyone in particular?

How am I supposed to answer that?

you could say why you say they would probably blame it on swinging. I don't see the correlation myself,I thought I was missing a point somewhere. I have a very tired brain today

"are there even that many posters who are that age range using the forums?"

Probably not amongst the regulars, as I said it's normally one off ignorance but there were two threads in 24 hours caused me to comment. Also as has been pointed out there are some considerably older who really should know better who still display a lack of knowledge and understanding of basic human sexual activity & safety let alone swinging NSA whatever you want to call it levels of experimentation and associated risk.

it is ok to have sex when you are pregnant women who think it will harm the baby are the ones who worry too much.

Also knowing a lot about sexual acts etc...doesn't make you any better at shagging.

If you are talking relationships, most people on the forums are damaged by these in the past, or currently, so their age range varies also.

Having sex with your regular partner while pregnant is a completely different thing to having sex with strangers for kicks.

I rest my case. It's not about harming the baby, it's about passing std's through risky sex with unknown partners that can cause miscarriage and birth defects etc.

Technical skill and knowledge alone does not make anyone better at shagging, it takes two or more to make that memorable, even then it also depends on many other factors.

I am talking about a general level of knowledge that would include knowledge about relationships, even those who have not experienced it have seen good bad and indifferent, and should know how to treat the subject based on the other persons view point (often ignoring the concept is quite appropriate)

Would be good if those involved in swinging had a general knowledge on sexual health matters, that clamidia is infectious and gay isn't would be nice...

No agenda against the 20' somethings just the two that sparked this post were in that age group, as others have been, I was wondering if the sex education system had become so single streamed that depth of knowledge is not what it used to be.
