Some people are friendlier than others it doesn't matter where they come from, I think the divide happens in peoples heads.

I would say Northerners( well the men anyway, and they are by far the best shags ever)

In reality, their place of birth, or geographical location matters not a jot, to whether they are friendly or not.

Hmmm we have had some experiences of the perceived north south divide that have shocked us and made us realise that location is no basis on which to form an opinion on a persons friendliness. Better to get to know an individual whichever part of the country they're from.

No, it's that they all seem to be situated in the direst seedy areas, where you would never walk alone at night and are mainly reminiscent of greasy spoon cafes

Titz Towers, North Notts

Whilst people are people, I think there is a cultural element. Up here people seemed more inclined to start a random conversation with a stranger, whereas I don't think that happens so much down South. Granted the conversation may involve, 'If tha looks at our lass, once muuur, ah'll flatten thee.' or mostly 'nice weather, our kid'

In London people barely even look at you. But most don't live there or are on holiday. There aren't many pubs left in my area now but old people still chat at the bus stop or in Tesco

Being a southwest lad living in the north I can say that it doesn't make any difference where your from its all about your ! Attitude ?

But the north on the whole people will talk to you where as the south people seem to keep their heads down?

But I have friends in the south who aren't like that ! So it's down to who you meet I suppose????

Southerner here who has lived all over the country, and I have children in Swansea and London whom I visit regularly.

I can honestly say that folk are as friendly or remote as you perceive them to be, but what does help is being receptive and friendly yourself.

Without doubt, when I take the time to chat or smile, I have had nothing but positive reactions.

Northerners only talk to you a lot as a distraction so their mates can rob your house.

The north starts at Watford, the south starts at the river Thames.

Central

There is a generalised greater level of friendliness in the north compared to the south imo. The north starts near to me in the midlands, catch me on a bad day, and the jet stream has moved it further north. Great pockets of warm people in the south too, and some dreadfully cold uns up north. Each of us influences how people relate to us, the more accepting and inviting we are, the likely better friendliness we get in return.

The only experience I have had with southerners are the ones that have visited my pub.Firstly they are gobsmacked by how cheap the beer is here.A pint of Tetleys costs £2.35 here where as down south it is something like £4 or £5.Also they love the social life up north because the northerners are more tolerant and easy going.I know of at least 3 people who have actually moved up north and have not regretted the move.I don't believe in the north/south divide but I think southern people chase money all the time, where as northern people are happy if they have just enough money to see them through the week.

It may have been said but what you give out is generally what comes back to you.

My Northern friend finds it "charming" that I randomly talk to strangers, wherever I am in the country, and they reply with the friendliness I put out.

The only divide is the stuff that goes on chips and what the fish and chip shop is called.

I find the women who come from NP4 Postcode to be the best in bed, but the friendliest come from TR19.

That is of course complete nonsense! but I do find people who have space tend to be friendlier than those who live and work in big cities, guess when you are fighting for personal space 24/7 it's less normal to invite others in to share.

was born and bred in Liverpool, living in Surrey and worked in London for over 20 yrs..

have lived in Yorkshire, Wiltshire and regularly visit Wales and Scotland..

there are folks 'who wont give you the time of day' in every part of this land..

equally there are folks who are welcoming and friendly, as well as those who will make sweeping generalisations or assumptions based on not a lot perhaps..
