What the hell are they and what type of programme do I need to use to open them??

Trying to upload some pics from my camera but everyone I try the software has to run an update but it won't work cos my computer won't run the .dll file!!!

Your best best is to uninstall, reboot and then re-install your camera/photo software.

Try doing a system restore if you can, but otherwise, your best bet is to uninstall, reboot and then re-install your camera/photo software.

you`ll find programs stop running when you lose or corrupt a dll associated with it. try reinstalling the prog or googling the specific dll

I think it is something that should be just running in the background rather than you being able to open it.

When you load your camera up, does it give you options of what you want to do with it? Have you uploaded pics from it before?

On the start window, All programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore, Then just choose restore to an earlier date best of luck

I have but it always tries to update when I do it so I thought I'd try and sort it out....wish I bloody hadn't now!!

you dont open dll files. they are inside sub-folders associated with a specific program

you`ll get notified through windows if one is missing

so ur trying to run the software for ur cam but it wont run because of a missing or corrupt dll? you dont run dll`s directly. you run the application .exe which then uses the .dll files to start up

try uninstalling and then reinstalling the software

this may sound silly but if you have antivirus or firewall software they do block programs from being loaded therefore on installing of the software files will not be installed due to the systems firewall antivirus

if installing any software unplug from the internet and turn off your firewall and antivirus programs then install the software test then restart your pc then plug in your interent connection

thats for those that dont know much about pc,s

if already installed said program theres 2 ways to do it

1, remove program in add and remove program

2, install again while firewall is off and hopefully it will repair it installing all the files you need

Good luck Evie. It is worth knowing what system restore is, and making sure it is active on your computer. It basically is a copy of your computer at a specific time. If something is done to your pc afterwards that stops it working right, such as installing something new, you can revert your pc to how it was at the time that system restore made a copy. Obviously what was installed afterwards wont be there any longer so could be installed again, hopefully without problems. The dll files are essential parts of programmes, but arent the programme. If some are missing or faulty the programme wont work properly. You would remote the programme and reinstall it to make sure the dll files were all there. In control panel there is a tool to add and remove programmes which is easy to use. Control panel is also where you would find system restore - I really recommend that you make sure it is turned on. If you ever get a future problem, it will make it much easier for you or someone else to fix it for you if it is turned on. Once set, it will just work invisibly and you wont need to do anything again, unless your pc gets a problem. Feel free to ask me if you need further help. Good luck!

Open up My Computer.

Click on Tools in the top menu bar.

Click on Folder Options.

In the window that opens, click on the tab named View.

Scroll down the list till you come to the option “Show hidden files and folders”. Click on this option to select it. The option just above this option (Do not show hidden files and folders) will become deselected automatically. Relax, it is normal.

Uncheck the box below these options which says “Hide file extensions for known file types”. This will display the extensions of all files in your PC, allowing you to easily identify the DLL files.

Click on Apply, and then on OK.

Now navigate to the drive partition where Windows is installed.

Open the Windows folder. Inside it you will find a folder named System32.

Open the System32 folder. You will be able to see all DLL files of your Windows OS.

If you cannot spot the DLL files at first sight, right click on an empty space inside the System32 folder. A small menu will pop up. Select the option “Arrange Icons By”, and then click on the option “Type”.

Now Windows will arrange the DLL files in the folder side by side, allowing you to view those more comfortably.

You are free to view the DLL files as much as you want. It will not harm your PC in any way. You can also open the DLLs using a text editor like Notepad. However, do not attempt to modify any DLL file, unless you know what you are doing. Modifying DLL files may corrupt the files, rendering Windows inoperative.
