Seafood teas.

I love fish and seafood. I don't think it gets the love it deserves in this country, despite being an island. I'd land the Kraken and serve up with clarified butter and some linguine.

If it swims, I'll eat it....which may explain why I like Sharon Davies!

Seafood sticks are quite healthy for processed food, apparently. The are essentially white fish pressed into a sheet and the pink colour comes from boiled prawn shells if I recall.

I adore sea food. I could eat it all the time if I could afford to. Luckily there is a small fishing village near me, that makes it cheaper then normal supermarket prices, but it is still expensive.

However, in light of this thread, I have now decided that I am going to get this essay typed up, and then I am going to go to said little village and treat myself to white bait and white wine.

Raw octopus in oil, vinegar and garlic is divine.

Brought as a hors d'ouevre in a restaurant in Porto. When it came to deciding what I wanted off the menu, I didn't.

I just want a plate of that with some crusty bread

Nicest lobster I've had was in Denmark. Nicest crab was in Singapore. I've had some very disappointing ones too. Can be a bit variable. Never cooked either though.

One of the nicest seafood dishes I ever had was a seafood lasagne in a little bistro in Salford

I've done lobster thermador in the pub for someone who had ordered it in advance. It was far too rich a dish, but the lobster on its own is delicious. Like has been said, served simply with garlic butter and a little salad and good bread - very nice as a treat. Still prefer crab though!

One if the budget supermarkets sells lobster if you fancy trying it (either Aldi or lidl). It's frozen whole and in the shell so you'll have to crack it but that can be fun. Serve with melted butter, crusty bread and w green salad.

Frozen lobster is never going to be as good as freshly cooked but it's still a good way to sample it, after all most of us eat prawns that have been frozen quite happily.

If you ever in London, go to Burger and Lobster, and try their lobester or lobster roll. Amazing.... £20 for any, with a side of salad and banging chips, just don't get the burger.

I used to love lobster but after a couple of unfortunate incidents involving mussels I now steer well clear of seafood. It's been about three years now and I've only just started to have a bit of cod. It's a real shame because I used to love eel pie, cockles and whelks but even the smell makes me nauseous now.

Had a squid starter in rhodes once. it was stuffed with cheese and was lovely. i was only expecting a few pieces but it was the entire squid. with its big black eye looking up at me accusingly. as i cut into it the molten cheese oozed out. its not a dish for the squeamish! i managed half of it then hoped a seagull might pinch the rest as we were on a balcony. i feel guilty leaving good food on a plate.

Lobster is gorgeous, if you are cooking yourself there is a way to put them in trance before you throw them into the pot if you are bothered. Crab is lovely too, not all shellfish is top quality just because its fresh, ask the fishmonger where they are caught etc....I like both in shell, never eat them any other way.

My dad was a mussel man in my home town and all of his brothers were trawler men. Sadly im not big into shell fish but love any other fish. My son loves fishing and his best catch at the age of 11 was an 8lb Bass. Delicious, straight from the sea and into the oven. Perfect. Xx

Essex.

A couple of years ago we went camping near the coast. I used to walk down to the beach. Pick mussels, winkles and oysters. Eat the oysters there and then on the beach. Walk back to the campsite, clean and cook the mussels and winkles. We used to get loads of people come over and watch. Most of them had never tried shellfish and the children were in shock that you could get food out of the sea...

"A couple of years ago we went camping near the coast. I used to walk down to the beach. Pick mussels, winkles and oysters. Eat the oysters there and then on the beach. Walk back to the campsite, clean and cook the mussels and winkles. We used to get loads of people come over and watch. Most of them had never tried shellfish and the children were in shock that you could get food out of the sea..."

Crab sticks are "seafood"

OMG that's a classic....What part of the crab do they come from?

Lobster is great - but prefer scallops myself. All personal taste at the end tho...

Must admit I am not sure if I would still eat the oysters straight of the beach. I saw a tv programme a little while ago. It stated that over 75% of the UK oysters had norovirus, they need to be treated or cooked to make safe.

I'm not a clean freak and think a little dirt does you some good, that could be a little to much though....
