"It is in the eye of the beholder. Some people who are quite trim call themselves curvy because they may have large breasts. Some people who are just plain fat use curvy because quite understandably they do not want to describe themselves as fat. The best way to judge someone's size and any attractiveness therein is with your eyes. Not the words they choose to describe themselves by. I have met some rake like people who complain they are too fat and some rather copious people who do not see themselves as anything other than ultra slinky and chic. That's very diplomatic ..... I'm a size 22 and am fat no ifs or buts about it my profile says large coz I wouldn't describe myself as fabulous as the next size up is x x x" That's refreshing. Lots of blokes like fat women. It's not fooling anyone when people pretend they're something they're not, as someone said earlier, the pics will tell the real story.

"I just wish there was a "fat" option when setting up a profile. I'm not keen on euphemisms. Yeah, I'm fat - but I have enough body confidence to know that fat isn't the only think I have to offer. Not to your taste? Then walk on by - but by having the option to tell it like it is, it might mean I don't have to sift through so many messages telling me I'm disgusting/revolting, etc., etc. (Ta for the opinion: I know *just* the place you can put it...) " I have met many revolting thin people.

Eat plenty healthy food and do plenty exercise is the ONLY way to lose weight healthily and for it to stay off. Dieting makes your body panic and absorb as much energy as possible.

"I think it depends on the person, iv seen some girls that look large at 10, and some others that look trim at 10 -12 too. So it's hard to say. But generally speaking fat girls hide themselves behind this 'curvy' mask, Kelly brook is curvy. Dawn French isn't " Large at size 10?????? My god are the women you meet all 3ft tall? There is no way on earth that an average sized women with a 32" bust is large.

"Tip: if you can pinch lots from your waist its not slim lol." Ah but there is an issue with that. I'm a size 12 and going down to a 10 for some clothes but was a size 20 before so I do have a little extra flesh that if it was taken away would make me a size 10 easily. Now in your tip I would be fat. But I'm not. Fat to me is when you know yourself you are. I knew I was fat. I just hid it very well with the right clothes and wearing really high heels to make me look taller than I was.

And yet you didn't feel the need to say this to anyone else who pointed out that this subject has been done to death or that it's boring, only to me. How interesting... No is a perfectly reasonable response to an instruction to discuss something. The whole 'if you don't agree with something, don't post' is bollocks because the point of a discussion is that people have various views. Nobody, not even you, can decree only people who agree with a thread on it can post. It, as has been pointed out, has been done to death. Anyone with half a brain will know that there are a range of opinions without having to ask. So my answer, which is absolutely relevant to the OP is still no, I won't discuss it because it's boring. I wouldn't have said any more than that without your response to me. So now there are 5 posts "clogging up the thread" (in your opinion) rather than just one (which did answer the OP, albeit in a way you don't like, which is tough). Fabulous achievement, well done.

I'm a size 22 and am fat no ifs or buts about it my profile says large coz I wouldn't describe myself as fabulous as the next size up is x x x Not everyone is as forthright as you are it seems. Like you I would just describe myself as I am as it does not bother me either way. Some people have pride and thus need euphemisms to maintain that pride. That is their perogative. I don't like being fat....... I'm dieting and training mega hard to lose it but it's easier to gain than lose and now with weight coming off I've got lots of Hangy bits.... Who knows maybes when I reach my goal someone might have sympathy and contribute towards nips and tucks lol x x x x Stop dieting. It makes you gain weight. Eat plenty healthy food and do plenty exercise is the ONLY way to lose weight healthily and for it to stay off. Dieting makes your body panic and absorb as much energy as possible. Amen! I don't follow any mad diets I have 3 meals a day with correct portions and swim an gym 4-5 times a week I realized the only way to move it is exercise and for all I don't feel relaxed I the gym I'm starting to see results which pushes me harder.... Thank you for advice Exercise ftw. So many people just have no time to do exercise it seems but lots of time to think up excuses. Although I can vouch that at times motivation can be difficult. My sister was a size 10 back in 2007. A year later after giving birth to a 12lb baby her size went to 18-20. She started eating healthily and went to the gym 4 times a week. That was 2 years ago. She's now a size 10-12, skinnier than me! It took her a year to get down to the size she is today! Still goes to the gym" Bravo to your sister she must be so proud of herself x x x. I've lost 46lbs since January and it's bloody hard work.... I personally feel the only way to move it is excercising x x x

"Discuss..." Stupid question. I'm curvy because my waist is much smaller than my hips and boobs, but I'm a fat 14 because I'm overweight.

"Discuss..." When you gain weight? Seriously someone (female) who is a size 8 can be curvy, as well as someone who is a size 18, it used to mean having an hourglass figure in days gone by.

I'd like a dress size smaller hour glass figure . My diet is decent and I exercise. The doctor's opinion on me being overweight - well you're approaching menopause

"I have recently gone from a size 8 to a 12, reasons beyond my control. I believe in my head this isn't fat but do feel disgusting. However, anyone that's met or seen pics of me seem to think I look nice, but the other day I received a random message from some guy calling me obese (not seen pics BTW only one I had public of my very ample breasts). Am I wrong is 12 now obese?!? " Check by the NHS bmi. It's doubtful unless you're 3 ft. Obviously athletes and especially body builders are exempt due to muscle mass as opposed to excess fat.

If it does that, address your issues. Many of us have had a "fat" blast from someone rejected. Ignore them.

Thats where the lines get blurry, some are and won't admit it to themselves and will take offence at the term, some are and will happily agree, either can take offence at any given time,so I can understand the caution.

"Stating a fat person is fat isn't rude. I don't think I am fat tho and I feel it would be rude if the person is not comfortable with that adjective" It depends on intent. If the intent is to insult because of a judgemental attitude, then yes, it is rude. If it is merely information eg from a Doctor it is not, but it can still wound if the word is normally 'loaded'.

"Skinny you can usually associate with a size. But curvy is to do with body shape so you could be skinny with curves or thicker with curves. Fatness is to do with how much body fat you have. So skinny I'd think UK sizes 6-8 or 10 if you are tall. Curvy is when you have a waist/hip ratio of around 0.65-0.75. Fat is when you have 30%+ body fat. But generally if you want to know what UK sizes are small, medium and large then according to retailers: 4-6 = extra small 8-10 = small 12-14 = medium 16-18 = large 20-22 = extra large " That may be true, but the average dress size in the UK is a 16. Go to France if you like slender women-their average dress size is a 10.

"If it's a description that bothers you do something about it. If it isn't then there's no need to be offended. I didn't know there was such a difference between the UK and France re. dress sizes - that's really shocking" I have a friend who suffered from anorexia and she is offended when people call her skinny. I try to avoid calling people skinny or fat, preferring to use the terms slender, very slim, overweight or carrying some extra weight. I wonder what the average clothes size is in the US for women? Yes, the UK is an overweight nation, but some of the USAs supersizers must bring their average up?!

(Ta for the opinion: I know *just* the place you can put it...) "I am by no means considered fat but I'd like to point out that you can be healthy and overweight as you can be slim and unhealthy. Yet people that are small are never judged on there health. My sister always was severely overweight and ate only dry crackers and apples and took laxitives and made herself sick to get to 9 stone. Everyone commended her for being so healthy! OP do you consider this healthy just coz she was then slimmer?" I'm fitter now than when I was a 10/12 and weighed 8 stone. You can't judge a book by it's cover.

Maybe if we weren't so worried about offending people, we wouldn't be catching up to America in the diabetes and obesity stakes." People don't like to be reminded they are fat as it promps them do try to do something about it and thats pretty hard for some. Its far easier to eat what you like use the curvy tag and feel accepted as they are.

Your sister's method doesn't sound too bright but whether she was healthier after is impossible for anybody to judge on here. What can't be considered healthy is to eat too much and do too little.
